  • Lexington and Concord

    The battle of Lexington and Concord was the first battle of the Revolutionary War and it ended with the British fleeing under heavy fire. The British troops were trying to raid a colonial arms stache and Paul Revere found out about this and issued his legendary chant of "The British are coming."
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress convened and voted for the colonists to go to war. They appointed George Washington as commander in chief and inducted the colonial militias into continental service.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition was a document that stated the colonists had the same rights as the British and the colonists also pledged their allegiance to the British crown. This was the last attempt by the colonists to avoid a revolution.
  • Bunker Hill

    Americans learned that the British were going to send troops to take the hills surrounding Boston. The Americans made a preemptive strike and clashed against the British. They ended up losing but the fight gave them an ego boost because of the heavy casualties that the British suffered.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence kick started the war because it stated all the grievances against the colonists enacted by the British. The Declaration of Independence was signed by our Founding Fathers and it gave the colonists a lot of patriotic pride that was needed for them to go to war.
  • Battle of Trenton

    This battle was small and only resulted in 22 casualties but it was a morale boost for the Americans because they completely demolished the opposing Hessians leading to their surrender.
  • Battle of Princeton

    This battle was essentially a flank by George Washington and it ended with him riding between the firing lines until his horse wouldn't go back any more. The Americans saw this and pushed through the enemies lines.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The battle of Saratoga was another battle that gave the Continental Army a morale boost and this battle in particular caused the Dutch, French, and Spanish to join the American's cause.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge was a American military encampment that lead to the Continental Army becoming a well trained army that rivaled the British. The soldiers lived in harsh conditions that the soldiers would have struggled to get used to, but they still emerged as a fighting force to be reckoned with.
  • French Treaties

    The Treaty of Alliance established an alliance between the French and the Americans as well as the Spanish later on. The Treaty of Amity and Commerce established a commercial trade relationship between the French and the Americans.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    The battle of Cowpens was another battle that the Americans won against the British. This battle showed the colonists that they could win a battle without an factors that gave them an upper hand.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    This was the very last battle of the Revolutionary War because even though the British still had 30,000 troops in America, they had no will left to fight the rebels after such a demoralizing loss.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This treaty ended the American Revolution and it proved that the British finally recognized the colonists as independent and it granted them all of the land to the west of where they were.
