    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. Before the battle, Paul Revere did his famous ride to inform others that the British were coming to attack.The Massachusetts militia attacked enemy and they withdrew.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    This battle was fought on Bunker and Breed's Hill. The British had a 2 to 1 advantage, and they ended up winning. This battle proved this war was more than just rebellious acts and was going to be a long, hard war.
  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    The Continental Army was at Long Island. When the British arrive, they realize how many people had came (the British had 20,000 soldiers while Americans had 10,000 soldiers) and that it would be impossible to keep Britain from taking New York City, so Washington ordered withdrawal.
  • Battle of Trenton and Princeton

    In 1776, the British general, William Howe, had ordered his army to stop fighting for winter. Washington decided to attack during this winter, which caught his enemy completely by surprise. About 100 Hessians died at the battle and America captured about 900. Americans won this battle, and reenergized their soon to be country for the revolution.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    General Burgoyne was the general for the British and Gates was the general for the Americans during this battle. Americans won, and this battle convinced the French to support the Americans. After this battle, Americans felt reenergized for the revolution.
  • Battle of Vincennes

    The British had taken control of Fort Sackville, and after a small battle, the Americans won it back. This battle may have been small, but it established American support in the frontier.
  • Battle of Bohamme Richard vs. Serapis

    Battle of Bohamme Richard vs. Serapis
    The American's ship, The Bohamme Richard, sailed along the coast of England, and met the British warship called The Serapis. John Paul Jones was in charge of The Bohamme Richard, and became famous for his dedication. After fighting for a long time, he was asked if he was ready to surrender, and he said, "I have not yet begun to fight." This made him a naval hero to Patriots.
  • Battle of Charleston

    Battle of Charleston
    Clinton sailed from New York to Charleston. There were about 14,000 British men (soldiers and loyalists), while there was 5,400 militiamen. After 3 months of bombardment, America surrenders. This is known as the greatest American defeat in the Revolutionary War.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    Battle of Guilford Courthouse
    The Continental Army gained 4,400 men, but they weren't skillful. During the battle, the US had a 2:1 advantage, but since the British were so much more skillful, they won. This battle was important since the British lost about 600 men, which was over 1/4 of the original force.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This battle happened in Yorktown, Virginia, where Cornwallis and his men were staying. Washington attacked them and trapped them in Yorktown. After 3 weeks of fighting, the British surrendered and the war ended, declaring independence for America.
