  • Lexington and Concord 1775

    This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

    -What: The first battle of the Revolitionary War
    -When: April 19, 1775
    -Where: In the towns of Lexington and Concord
    -Why: The British were coming to collect the colonists weapons
  • Battle of Trenton

    Who: The Continental Army led by George Washington against the Hessian Soldiers
    What: Washington and the Continental army attacked the Hessians. The Continental Army killed 900 German soldiers and gained needed supplies
    When: December 26, 1776
    Where: Trenton, New Jersey
    Why: They needed to win another battle, and it was a surprise attack on the Hessians
  • Saratoga

    Who: The Continental Army, Burgoyne's Army, Arnolds Army, and Horatio Gates
    What: 2 battles broke out in New York due to the lack of supplies and horses.
    When: September 19, 1777 - October 7, 1777
    Where: First Fight: Nearby Freeman's Farm
    Second Fight: Saratoga, New York
    Why: Burgoyne's army needed to get to Albany. The French were convinced after the battle that the Americans could win the Revolutionary War and start providing for the French.

    What: The documents signed by the representatives of the 13 American colonies
    When: November 16, 1777 - March 1, 1781
    Where: Pennsylvania State House, Philadelphia
    Why: To solidify and unify the war effort against Britain and to act as the first constitution of independence
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    Who: British against the Continental Army and the French
    What: The Americans trap the British as the French shoot cannons, the British surrender. This was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War.
    When: October 19, 1781
    Where: Yorktown, Virginia
    Why: The Americans overpowered the British
