  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    Location: Lexington and Concord Mass.
    This battle happened because Thomas Gage
    British commander heard they had supplies and weapons being kept by Patriots in the towns of Lexington and Concord. He ordered troops to find and destroy these supplies since they could be used to rebel against the govt.The battles represented the first military actions between the colonists and the British Army. This was the start of the American Revolution.The British won at Lexington,the Americans won at Concord.
  • Siege of Ft. Ticonderoga

    Location: Lake Champlain in northeastern New York
    Benedict Arnold from Massachusetts and Ethan Allen from Vermont joined their forces and attacked the British military base in Ticonderoga. The attack came at dawn when the soldiers were still sleeping. The capture of Fort Ticonderoga was the first American victory, and it supplied the army with important artillery. It took control over the waterways to Canada could protect New York and the New England colonies from British invasion from Canada.

    The first important battle of the American War of Independence which was fought at Breed's Hill; the British defeated the colonial forces.
  • Battle of Quebec

    Location: Quebec , Canada.
    Colonel Benedict Arnold and General Richard Montgomery wanted to capture the British city of Quebec. The American army was divided into to two groups lead by Richard Montgomery and General Benedict Arnold. They traveled two different routs into Canada because they wanted to bring some of the Canadian people into their army.The attack failed, Montgomery was killed. The Battle of Quebec was the first major defeat of the Revolutionary War for the Americans.
  • Battle of Long Island

    Location: Long Island, New York
    The British Army commanded by the brothers General Howe and Admiral Howe successfully defeated the American Continental Army led by George Washington. The British wanted to take control of New York, and isolate New England from the rest of the colonies.
  • Battle of Ft. Washington

    Location: New York
    British and German troops, under the command of the British General Lord Howe, attacked Fort Washington. The British and the Germans took over the fort.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Location: Trenton, New Jersey
    George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night. There, the Americans surprised the Hessian soldiers that were celebrating the holdiday. The battle was a victory for Washington and his American troops.
  • Battle of Princeton

    Location: Princeton, New Jersey
    George Washington led American troops into the Battle of Princeton. Charles Cornwallis and Charles Mawhood were in charge of British soldiers in that area. The Americans didn't have many weapons or supplies, so they retreated. After having reinforcements arrive, General Washington led them into battle again, this time it was successful. The Americans defeated the British once again.
  • Battle of Brandywine

    Location: Philadelphia
    It was a battle between the American army of General George Washington and the army of Sir William Howe.The British were the victors of this battle, forcing Americans to leave Philadelphia. The British seized Philadelphia after their victory at Brandywine Creek.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Location:Hudson River, in Saratoga, New York
    A battle fought between the Continental Army, led by Horatio Gates, and the British Army, commanded by John Burgoyne. Also known as the turning point of the American Revolutionary War. When the French realized that the Americans had surrendered to the British, they decided to ally themselves with the Americans. The British had to move their resources they used to fight the US from America because the French had allied themselves with the Americans
  • Battle of Charleston

    Location: Charleston, South Carolina
    The British Army fought against the Americans. The significance of the conflict was that the British gained control of the South and the Americans lost many soldiers due to the surrender, under the command of General Benjamin Lincoln, the Americans held out as long as they could, then surrender to the British, commanded by General Henry Clinton.
  • Battle of King's Mountain

    Location:South Carolina and North Carolina
    The Battle of King's Mountain ended in victory for the Americans. The British Army and Loyalists fought against the Americans. It was against the Patriots , who were for America's freedom and the Loyalists , who wanted the British to continue ruling us . The Patriots had about 7 commanders and the Loyalist had a British commander named Patrick Feurgson . Patrick Feurgson died during the war .

    The British Army fought against the Americans.The Battle of Cowpens ended in victory for the Americans.The Battle of Cowpens was important for it encouraged Southern militiamen to come out and fight.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Location: Yorktown, Virgina
    The last major battle in the American Revolution. British general Cornwallis was against French general Marquis de Lafayette and General George Washington. Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown. The British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolutionary War.
