Lexington and Concord
The British men were marching, they ended up colliding into the colonists, then someone shot at the other side which started an almost one sided battle. It is still unknown to this day who shot the first shot. Is also known as the first shot heard around the world, which marked the start of the American War of Independence. -
Battle of Fort Ticonderoga
Also so known as The capture of Fort Ticonderoga. This was the first offensive victory for American forces. It secured the passageway from north to Canada and netted the patriots an important cache. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Happened a few months after the start of the American Revolutionary War. This was the first war that gave America confidence even though about 400 hundred Americans died, but about 1054 British soldiers died. The British were planning on taking over the hills around Boston to get a better height advantage. The Americans moved to the hills and caught the British off guard. They then started to fight but the British lost ammunition and had to retreat. -

The Common Sense was an account who was written by Thomas Paine. He wrote why America should be independent and separated from other countries because they effected America in a negative way. He supported his account with common sense facts that were logical, and some supportive details that were through emotions. -
Siege of Boston
Was a time period of American militiamen containing British troops in Boston. This happened because the colonists demanded the same rights as other British subjects. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is "the founding document of the United States". This document/event separated the political and economical tides between America and Britain. This happened because the colonists wanted to be independent, and not controlled and given ridiculous taxes. -
Battle of Long Island
The British Army successfully won against the American Continental Army led by George Washington. The battle was a part of a British campaign to take over Brooklyn. -
Washington Crosses the Delaware
The Continental army was crossing the river. This happened so his army could attack an isolated garrison of Hessian troops at Trenton, New Jersey. They decides to cross on Christmas so it was catch the British off guard. -
Battle of Trenton
Washington beat garrison of Hessian mercenaries before they had given up. This happened because Washington felt threatened so he thought without a decisive action, the Continental Army was going to be "doomed". -
Battle of Princeton
Continental Army soldiers under the command of General George Washington beat the British troops near Princeton, New Jersey. This happened because they had ran into each other after marching. They were able to be victorious because of the element of surprise. -
Battle of Saratoga
The American defeated the British army again and lifted patriot morale. They also succeeded in finding foreign support.General John Burgoyne was trying to invade New England from Canada. -
Winter at Valley Forge
The Winter at Valley Forge was a period of time where it was very, very cold. It lasted between Dec 19, 1777 and June 19, 1778. A lot of people became sick and they had shortages of food and supplies. -
Treaty of Amity and Commerce/ Treaty of Alliance
France noticed that America was independent, so they promoted trade between France and America. This made a military alliance with Britain. -
Battle of Charleston
America successfully protected Charleston from a British force. The Americans were using Georgia and other states to look for loyalists and turn them into rebellions. The British was not ok with that, which started the battle. -
Battle of Springfield
America beat Britain again. Britain was able to get closer and was able to advance but at the end of the day they had to retreat. -
Battle of Camden, SC
Lord Cornwallis routed superior U.S. forces led by Major General Horatio Gates about four miles north of Camden, South Carolina. This almost strengthened the hold Charleston. The British ended up winning this battle and had Continental General Horatio Gates join British General Charles Cornwallis's force. -
Battle of Cowpens
Continental were lead and backwoods militia to a brilliant victory over Banastre Tarleton's battle-hardened force of British regulars. This was located in South Carolina north of Spartanburg. The British had taken advantage of America's repositioning situation. The Americans ended up again getting yet another victory. -
Battle of Kings Mountain
The Battle of Kings Mountain was another American victory. The battle was a very fierce firefight. This happened because the British were attempting to get control of the Southern colonies. -
Battle of Yorktown
This was another victory for America. British troops surrendered to the Continental Army and their French allies. Cornwallis hoped to keep his men in the Chesapeake town until more supplies and reinforcements could arrive from Britain. The French and the Americans tried to capture the British before they could get the supplies and reinforcements. -
Treaty of Paris
This was the peace treaty of America and Britain. This treaty was a negotiation and the end of the Revolutionary war.
