    Paul Revere's ride
    The British planned a surprise attack on Lexington. Paul Revere heard these British plans. Revere rode out in the middle of the night to warn colonial militia of the approaching British.
  • Battle of Concord and Lexington

    Battle of Concord and Lexington
    American militiamen fought 800 British troops. The battle broke out at Concord. The minutemen claimed victory. Seventy-three British soldiers were killed and over 200 were wounded. The Americans lost 49 soldiers and suffered 39 wounded. This marked the beginning to Revolutionary War.

    On the afternoon, Gage's forces attacked. In a hard fought out battle, the American were forced to withdraw. While the British won, they suffered heavy losses. The battle surprised the British who thought it would be an easy victory.

    Twelve colonies voted in favor of the Declaration of Independence. This Declaration stated that the colonies were free and independent states, freed of all allegiance to England.
  • British capture triconderoga

    The british captured fort triconderoga.They accomplished this task painlessly by stationing cannons on a peak overlooking the fort. The Americans then withdrew to fight another day.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The British made two attempts to break through American defenses in Albany, but failed. After the second attempt, they withdrew to Saratoga, where they were surrounded by American milatary forces. The British had no choice but to surrender which they did on October 13, 1777. One quarter of the British forces in North America have surrendered.
  • Treaty of Amity and Commerce

    Treaty of Amity and Commerce
    After the American victory at Saratoga, the French made an agreement with the United States. On January 7, 1778, the French royal council declared in favor of a treaty of amity and commerce with the United States. It was followed on February 6th with a treaty of alliance. The treaty made a major rise with the Americans in the war and ended American Isolation.
  • Battle of Hobkirk's Hill

    Battle of Hobkirk's Hill
    Greene positioned himself and his men on Hobkirk's Hill, a pine-covered ridge running east and west a mile north of Camden, South Carolina. Lord Rowden (a british officer) attacked the American position first , and some of the Continental soldiers broke and ran, removing the American defensive line, Although the Battle of the Hobkirk's Hill was a tactical British victory, Rowden was forced to withdraw.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    General Cornwalis arrived in Petersburg. He then went to Yorktown and began preparing a naval base there. General Washington moved south and, together with French army and navy, surrounded the British army, forcing it's surrender. This victory by Washington and the French ended the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    A peace treaty was signed between Great Britain and the United States on September 3, 1783. The treaty ended the Revolutionary War.
