    lexington and concord
    General Tomas Gage sent 700 troops to capture the guns and important colonial leaders. Paul Revere and William Dawes warned the minutemen in the night. A British commander ordered them to go home. A shot came from one of the sides and a battle began. In Concord 400 minute men were waiting for the British when they arrived. 4000 Americans fired at them on there way back to Boston only killing or wounding 300 British soldiers.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga
    The fort was at the southern end of lake Champlain. It protected the water route to Canada. Ethan Allen (black smith) also had some followers from green mountains. They are known as the Green Mountain Boys. They scared the British that made them surrender immediately. One of the important reasons that they took the fort was because it controlled a main route. The other reason was because it had cannons. It was important that they had the cannons and route because they then had good spirits.

    Farmers and workers who were porly trained fought in the war. British soldiers had to climb steep hills to get to the colonists. The colonists had the advantage point because they were shooting down on them. The british won the war but more then 1000 soliders on their side died to 400 on the other side.

    Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold led two armies to invade Canada. During a Severe snowstorm they attacked Quebec and it turned on them. Mr. Montgomery got killed and Mr.arnold was hurt. Americans stayed outside of Quebec and British took over.

    British went away because they didnt want their ships to get full of holes from colonist cannons. Those cannons threatened them. Then they sailed back to Great Britain.

    The advantages that the British had was they had 34000 well trained soldiers and 10000 sailors. While Washington in the other had only 20000 poorly trained soldiers. In the summers the British kept making the Americans move all over the place.The British were definately pushing the Americans around. Naten Hale was an American legnd. He was trying to find out the British battle plan. He got hung but his last words were "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.

    The Decleration of Independence is celebrated on July Fourth.It is celebrated this day because that is the day it was approved.the decrelation actually took place on August second.When Benjamin Franklin steeped up to sign it he said,"We must all hang together,or most assuredly we shall all hang separately."What he means if we didnt fight together we would all die alone.Now Patriots were not fighting for free trreatment and they were fighting for a new nation.

    The soilders were poorly dressed, some didnt even have shoes. Washington attacked trenton mercenaries from both sides. They got complete surpise on them. Mercenaries were paid people from a different country to fight for ur side. Washington made camp near Trenton and lit fires at night and packed up and left queilty.

    General Burgoyne's plan was to drive Britsh forces to Albany, New York from three differen't angles or directions. An army of 8;000 British soldiers would go south and try to capture three forts on three lakes, Lake George, Lake Champlain, and Upper Hudson River. Burgoyne's plan failed omost right away.     -y. They were headed south while hauling alot of baggage carts. They had to go through the woods and their supplies were running low. Americans won that battle. Four results from the battle of Saratoga were: Turning point for the war, New England was nolonger in danger, British figured it wasnt going to be a easy victory, and helped Europeans to think that we might have a chance.

    The Continental army spent the winter suffering, the 11,000 Continental soldiers had just barely enugh to eat, little clothes, shared many houses, some shivered in drafty huts. Some didnt even have socks, shoes, or even trousers. Food ran low and mst were eating thin soups. The british on the other hand had parties and balls. They had plenty of food and were fully clothed and had many of extra clothes. Women helped by collecting food, warm clothes, and medicines. Some even came to tend to the

    George Rogers Clarks was sent to defend the fronteir.He was from Virginia.He captured to forts without a hassel they were,the Mississippi outpost.They were called the Kaskaskia and Cahokia.They went to attack the British at Fort Vincennes during mid winter and caught them on surpise.The Natives and the British surrendered.They victory allowed them to stay on the fronier and to strengthen the claim.

    The British had a much larger Navy than the Americans. John Joe fought side by side with the British warship serapis.Cannons destroyed each others boats. Jones won the battle. A privateer is an armed civilian ships that had there govenments permission to attack enemy ships and keep their goods.

    The comander was General Daniel Morgan who commanded 800 men. The tastics the Americans used were to have small groups of men in front that would shot three times then retreat. Then have cavarly and a line of skilled riflmen charge to finish them off. The patriots won this war. It was said to be a clear victory for General Morgan

    Cornwallis went to Virgina so the British fleet cold reinforce his army. This was a mistake because The French fleet had scared off the British ships. Mean while Green's army took much of what the British had in the south ut a few towns. The ending result was that the British threw their guns in a pile and surrendered. This was the last major battle of the war, so thats why its the most important battle.
