French and Indian War
The war began with the battle of Fort Duquesne where George Washington led a victory for him and his men. The war lasted until 1763 ending in a British Victory -
Proclomation of 1763
The proclamation by which King George III stated that colonists must stay on the eastern side of the Appalachian Mountains and that Indians must stay on the western side. This failed because some colonists where already settling there. -
Stamp Act
The act where every peice of paper was required to have a stamp or a fine was enforced. The colonists protested this to parliment and it was eventually repealed. -
Townshend Act
The act where the colonists where taxed on common goods like tea, paint, paper, and glass. The colonists boycotted buying these goods and eventually in 1770 it was all repealed except for tea. -
The Boston Massacre
Five colonists died and ten were injured in a riot against a british regiment. It wasn't really a massacre because the soldiers were just defending themselves. -
Boston Tea Party
Because Britain did not repeal the tea from the Townshend act Bostonians were not pleased. 50 men boarded three ships carrying tea dressed as Mohawk Indians. They took the tea and dumped it in the sea. 90,000 pounds of tea was dumped. -
Intolerable Acts
After the Boston Tea Party parliment was angry so they made it so that the Boston Harbor was closed, Boston was firmly under control by Britain, all Brittish soldiers who were acussed of murder had to be tried in England, and more soldiers were sent to Boston. -
Lexington and Concord
The British won the first battle here but lost the second in a suprise attack by the patriots. They were easy targets for the patriots. -
Declaration Of Independence
All but one of the 13 colonies voted for independence, New York, who did not vote. We celebrate the 4th but independence was decided on the second. The final declaration of Independence was signed on the fourth. -
Treaty of Paris
The treaty of Paris ended the revolution and officially gave America it's independence. -
Signing of the Constitution
It was originally signed on the ninth but due to problems it was delayed until the seventeenth.
