  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Said that all lands west of the heads of all rivers from the west or northwest were off-limits to the colonists. It also established four new colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    What started as a snowball being thrown at the British troops erupted into an all-out street fight between the british troops and a patriot mob. The patriots were becoming uncomfortable at the sight of the growing crowd of the british troops. There were eleven casualties as a result-- five deaths and six injured.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A protest of the patriots against the tax on tea had the patriots dumping hundreds of chests of tea into the harbor in Boston. Because of this, the Intolerable Acts-- on in which trade was shut down-- were set on were established for punishment for the destruction of property.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    This was the first battle of the American Revolutionary War, and has been known for the 'Shot heard around the world".
    This will always be rembembered as the first battle of the Revolutionary War.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    The battle of Bunker Hill was a defeat against the Americans and a win to the Brittish, mostly taking place on Breed's Hill.

    Even though we lost the battle, the Americans had many causualties against the British which ultimately gave confidence to the Americans.

    Olive Branch Petition
    A final attempt at peace to avoid a war between the 13 colonies and Great Britain but in the end was declined.
    The rejection of the Olive branch caused colonists to see that they wanted complete independence.
  • Publishing of Common Sense

    Publishing of Common Sense
    In a way that the people understood, Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet that gave them imput of the war and caused people to fight for independence.
  • Dorchester Heights

    Dorchester Heights
    This was a Patriot victory at Dorchester Heights. Patriots surrounded the British at night, secretly, and when the Brittish found out and realized that they were defenseless, they retreated.
    This was another victory for the Patriots.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    In the Declaration of Independence, it was announced that America would break off from British rule to be an independent, free country.
    In signing this, America became a free country.
  • Trenton

    Trenton
    While the Brittish were unprepared, Washington and his men approached the Hessien Force in Trenton. His men took action and the Brittish surrendured.
    This was the first major victory for the Americans.
  • Princeton

    Princeton
    The Brittish attempted to surprise Washington's troop right after the battle in Trenton, but Washington was able sneak avoid the British by sneaking around the British camp. They ran into a few british soldiers, but the Washington's troop outnumbered them.
    40 patriots and 275 soldiers died in the battle and the rest of the British left most of New Jersey for Washington to have.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga
    The British captured Fort Ticonderoga from the Americans after attacking them.
    The British had another win.
  • Saratoga

    Saratoga
    The British surrendered after the Patriots surrounded them. The Brittish were planning to strike the Patriots at different places, but they took too long and the Patriots were able to surround them.
    This was a major turning point in the war for the Patriots.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    The patriots were trained and became much stronger after a long, miserable winter of illness and disease. They marched from valley Forge to fight, renewed and anxious to fight. No battle was fought here, but this was the turning point in the war because the patriots had a new determination.
  • Yorktown

    Yorktown
    Allied with the French, Washington and his forces were able to surround the Brittish in Yorktown. The Brittish finally surrendered and so the war ended.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris gave freedom and independence to America.
    By signing this treaty, the war was officially ended.
