    Lexington & Concord
    Lexington was a British victory, but Concord was a Patriot victory. It was know as the "Shot heard round the world."

    The effect this had on the revelutionary war was that it started the war.
  • Capture of Fort Ticonderoga

    Ethan Allen & the Green Mountain boys (important people) captured the fort and got neecessary supplies. (Later recaptured)
    The effect this had on the revolutionary war was the emboldened Patriot spirits and the artillery and munitions helped the Continental Army's immediate need for weapons.
  • Second Continental Congress Meets

    Second Continental Congress Meets
    They met to respond to what they considered tyranny of the King of England. Out of this meeting came the Declaration of Independence and the American rebellion against England.
    Important People: John & Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Richard henry Lee, & George Washington
    The effect this had on the war was mainly the creating of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Although it was a British victory, the Patriots showed they were willing to fight. Their orders were " Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.
    The effect this had on the war is that people realized they had a chance to beat the British Army.
  • George Washington Named Commander-In-Chief

    Washington was selected over other candidates such as John Hancock based on his previous military experience and the hope that a leader from Virginia could help unite the colonies.

    This had an effect on the war because he led the troops to victory.
  • American Defeat at Quebec

    American Defeat at Quebec
    This battle was the first major defeat for the Americans. General Richard Montgomery was killed, Benedict Arnold was wounded, and Daniel Morgan and more than 400 men were taken prisoner.
    Important people: Benedict Arnold & Richard Montgomery.
    The effect this had on the war was major because all of the men they lost.
  • British Evacuate Boston

    The British army is forced to evacuate Boston because of Washingtons successful placement of fortifications and cannons on Dorchester Heights.
    Important People: George Washington
    The effect it had on the war was it gave the Partiots a morale booster.
  • British occupy NY City.

    British occupy NY City.
    280 ships carrying 32,000 British and hired Hessian troops. It was the largest force ever seen on the North American continent. To meet this challenge, General George Washington had only 20,000 largely untrained men in his command. The British obviously won.
    The result of this was the loss of Long Island was a serious blow to American morale, and the British were still poised for victory.
  • Declaration of Independence Issued

    Declaration of Independence Issued
    Fifty-six delegates signed the Declaration, including John Hancock, Samuel Adams, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Richard Henry Lee & Thomas Jefferson. This was a morale booster and inspiration for the Patriots.
  • Battle of Long Island

    This battle was a major win for British.
    It's also know as the Battle of Brooklyn or the Battle of Brooklyn Heights.
    Important People: George Washington
    It effected the war in that it was the start of a successful British campaign that gave the British control of the important city of New York.
  • Battle of Trenton

    It was an american victory.
    The Battle of Trenton took place on the morning after General George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River.

    This effected the war because it was a needed morale booster for the troops.
  • Bsttle of Brandywine

    General Sir William Howe made a plan for capturing the American capital at Philadelphia. Leaving a small force under Major General Henry Clinton at New York, he embarked 13,000 men on transports and sailed south. The British won this battle.
    The result of the Battle of Brandywine was around 1,000 killed,of washington's men, wounded, and captured as well as most of his artillery.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    This battle is regarded as the turning point of the war. The patriots won this battle. General Howe was supposed to move north from New York and assist him, but he went off to capture Philadelphia instead. General Barry St. Leger was supposed to move east from Lake Ontario, but his forces were turned back at Oriskany. Burgoyne was ultimately forced to surrender to the American forces.

    When the French Alliance was announced, the occupying British feared an attack from the French and abandoned the city, leaving the Tories unprotected.

    Winter at Valley Forge

    Valley Forge in Pennsylvania was the site of the military camp of the American Continental Army. It is approximately 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Starvation, disease, and exposure killed nearly 2,500 American soldiers by the end of February 1778.

    The Continental Army under General George Washington attacked the rear of the British Army column commanded by Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton as they left Monmouth Court House.
    Both sides claimed victory of this war.
  • Fall of Savannah

    It was the opening move in the British southern strategy to regain control of the rebellious southern provinces by appealing to the strong Loyalist sentiment believed to be there.
    The British won this battle.
    The effect of this battle was it was the first move in the British plan.

    Continental Army Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered forces numbering about 5,000 to the British.
    This had an effect on the war. A total of 5,283 captured, including three signers of the Declaration of Independence: Edward Rutledge, Arthur Middleton and Thomas Heyward, Jr.
  • Benedict Arnold's Treason Discovered

    Benedict Arnold's Treason Discovered
    His treason was Arnold contacted Sir Henry Clinton, head of the British forces, and proposed handing over West Point and his men.
    This had significant damage on the american Army & they lost a good General.
  • French and British battle in Chesapeake Bay

    between a British fleet led by Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Graves and a French fleet led by Rear Admiral Francois Joseph Paul. The battle was nconclusive but strategically a major defeat for the British, since it prevented the Royal Navy from reinforcing or evacuating the blockaded forces of Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia.

    The most important battle of the Revolutionary War. Marquis de Lafayette and an American army of 5,000 troops to blocked Cornwallis' escape from Yorktown by land while the French naval fleet blocked there escape by sea.
