  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise was an agreement passed in 1820 between the pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions in the United States Congress, involving primarily the regulation of slavery in the western territories. It prohibited slavery in the former Louisiana Territory except within the boundaries of the proposed state of Missouri. Prior to the agreement, the House of Representatives had refused to accept this compromise, and a conference committee was appointed.

    In 1835 - 1836 Texas battled for independence from Mexico. Texas got their independence since they out numbered Mexico. In 1845 Texas joined the United States of America, as the 28th state to join.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    Native Americans were forced out of their homes in North Carolina, Gergia, Tennassee, and Alabama in September 1838, due to the Indian removal act. So they marched down to wat is now Oklahoma. it was called the trail of tears because they were forced out of their homes, food was scarce, winter was harsh and they didn't have the appropriate clothing, and desease was ramped.More than 4,000 people died.
  • The new Republican party

    In 1854 an act were the republicans were united in opposing the Kansas-Nebraska act, and keeping slavery out of the territories. As the party grew it took in free-soilders, antislavery whigs and Democrats, and nativists, mostly from the North.
  • Southern Secession

    Lincoln's victory convinced southerns that they had lost their political voice in the national government. South Carolina led the way, seeding from the union. When the news reached Northern-born william Tecumsh Sherman, superintendent of the Louisiana state seminary of learning and Military Acadrmy, he poured out his fears for the south.
