    Second Continental Congress
    Date: May, 1775
    Location: Philadelphia
    Significance: Brought about point of no return, S.C.C wanted Declaration of Independence.
    Result: Men hosting the S.C.C were wanted for treason.
    Effect on War: True start of people rallying together for Declaration Of Independence and to fight British after olive Branch Petition failed.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Date: June 17, 1775
    Location: Breed’s Hill
    Significance: Morale booster for American Colonists.
    Result: British saw war would be long and costly, and British won.
    Effect on War: British gained control of Breed’s Hill and Charlestown Peninsula.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Date: July 4th, 1776 (Official Adoption), actually signed on July 2nd, 1776
    Location: Philadelphia
    Significance:Formal document stating Colonies independent from Britain rule.
    Result:Colonies and British now officially at war, Britain no longer controls colonies.
    Effect on War:All colonies agreed on the Declaration and they now formed together to fight the British.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    Date: October 17, 1777
    Significance: It was a big American victory because the British surrendered a huge army and failed to sever New York from New England
    Result: led to French contribution with US. Turning point of the American Revolution as it convinced the French to give the U.S. military support
    Effect on War: It lifted American spirits, ended the British threat in New England, and showed the French that the Americans had the potential to beat their enemy.

  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    Date: October 6-20, 1781
    Significance: The significance of the conflict was that General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown.
    Result: The British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown marking the end to the American Revolutionary War.
    Effect on War: The war had finally come to an end, although there continued to be skirmishes in the South between Loyalists after America’s separation.

    U.S. promised to return property to loyalists
