Revolution Time Lines

  • The French and Colonist Alliance

    The french and the Colonists aligned in order to help fight the british and the natives. One advantage was that the more people that were aligned means that they had a better chance of winning. A disadvantage was that the more people they had the more supplies were and the cost of war in general.
  • The Iroquiros Alliance

    The Iroquiros ended up helping the Colonists. The advantage was that that was more people to help fight. The disadvantage was that it struck fear on the New England people and also intimidated them.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act required stamps to be placed on the most printed materials. This was the first direct tax that britain had placed on the colonists. this was a turning point because colonists began to realize that the british could place taxes on them whenever they wanted to and leaving them to pay for war and other government expenses.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act allowed the West India company to sell directly to shop keepers without having to deal with american merchants. It also raised the tax on tea. this act made colonists want to push against the British Government.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Sons of Liberty was a secret government that was created to help protect the colonists. they stood up to the British governent by throwing 90,000 pounds of tea into the British Harbor. This upsetted the british and created more tension between the groups.
  • Paul Revere

    paul Rever used his 'Midnight Ride" to help warn the colonists to prepare for when the British were coming to attack. This was an act of leadership because with this minute men were able to prepare for battle. The effect was that without Paul they wouldnt have been as prepared for battle.
  • George Washington

    George Washington led the continental army to many victories in the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783. This was a major role in leadership and he eventually became president in 1780.
  • Declaration of Independence

    In 1776 Thomas Jefferson finsihed writing the Declaration of Independence which declared seperation and freedom from Britain. This was a HUGE turning point in the American Revolution.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    In 1776 Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. This was an important act of leadership because he was stating independence from Great Britain. The effect on war was that the colonists were free from british rule.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    A major turning point during the American Revoltion was the Battle of Saratoga. Two battles were taken place, one during the month of September and the other during October of 1777. This was a fantastic victory for the colonists after losing quite a few battles to the British. This victory motivated the colonists to the defeat of the British Army.
  • Treaty of Alliance

    The Treaty of alliance was formed between France and the U.S. promising military support of attacked by the British forces . The advantage waarmy support while the disadvantage was that the treaty would take a while to be signed and to be agreed upon.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    From September 28th to October 19th the Battle of Yorktown was being taken place. The war was fought between the French and colonists against the British. This battle was the last major battle in the war.
