Elizabeth Cady Stanton publishes " A History of Women Sufferage."
Throughout the late 1800's , Stanton and Moot led a series of protests and arguments for womens rights as for as property, voting, working, and divorce. Both are known for their most productive event at the Seneca Falls Convention in New York. This is where many women gathered to share and protest their beliefs for womens rights. While this didnt change any laws, these books gained the attention of the country, which would lead way to government action.
  • Wyoming becomes the first state to grant women the right to vote

Wyoming becomes the first state to grant women the right to vote
With Wyoming being a territory, women were able to set sufferage as a key issue as soon as Wyoming was aquired. With women sufferage already in effect as a territory, it was basically transferred over when Wyoming became a state. This was a huge step for womens rights. This was a cultural change in which Wyoming was the first to recognize and participate in. A lot like our current gay rights movement, women had to get things going state by state, before the national government would take action.
  • The Nineteenth Ammendment grants women the right to vote in any state and in any national election.

The Nineteenth Ammendment grants women the right to vote in any state and in any national election.
This ammenment set everything in stone for women. With the right to vote, the world was theirs to change. They now had the authority to put legislation in their power in order to gain equal rights. Exessive lobbying, protesting, and civic engagement went in from people of both genders to make this ammendment get through Congress. However, this was the most important Constitutional win for women.
  • Roe v. Wade

    Roe v. Wade
With the government banning the practice of abortion, women were forced to have babies that they didnt want. This brought up a hugsarguement that caused many malpractice cases and public protests. Eventually, in the Supreme Court case Roe. v. Wade, the court decided it was unconstitutional for the government to regulate a womens choice for their bodies. This gave women legal and individual power in a major case.
  • Nancy Polosi becomes first Speaker of the House

Nancy Polosi becomes first Speaker of the House
While this doesn;t seem like a very historical event, Polosi's position is a major step for women in a legal and governmental standpint. Instead of just being part of the vote, women are now taking leadership positions and even running for president. With years of experience and an attitude that says "I'm a woman and I'm just as good" Nancy Polosi won her spot by a vote from her peers and became an icon for our nation.
