    After the Ming Dynasty collapses, the Qing , or Manchu Dynasty takes over. The empire spread out quickly, and took on the philosophy Confucianism (well, Neo-Confucianism).
  • Emperor Shunzhi is the First Ruler of the Qing Dynasty

    He was a child and was named the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty.
  • Emperor Shunzhi Dies

    The mighty Emperor Shunzhi died due to smallpox.
  • Emperor Kangxi becomes the new ruler of the Qing Dynasty

    While he was the ruler, Kangxi stabilized the empire and improved life for the peasants. He started irrigation projects, lowered taxes, stopped rebellions, and helped develop agriculture. His court also controlled commerce and industry, His reign may have been the height of the Qing Dynasty, since it started to decline after his death.
  • The first Encyclopedia

    Gujin Tushu Jicheng was an encyclopedia containing 10,000 pages. It included 520 chapters about medicine.
  • The Golden Age of Three Emperors

    In the 18th century, the Qing dynasty had three emperors. During the "golden age," there was advancement in science, architecture, art, and education. Over 276 years, the Qing Dynasty had 11 emperors.

    White Lotus Rebellion

    Poor mountain settlers who supported the White Lotus Society (a secret pro-Ming organization) protested taxes. Unfortunately, the goverment destroyed all of the rebels in 1804, causing about 16 million people to die.

    The Opium War Part One

    Opium is a drug that is made from poppies that is very bad. Great Britain had been smuggling opium (which is illegal) into China to balance tea exports. China sent gunboats, and so did Great Britain. China lost because the gunboat damage was too much, was forced to sign the Nanjing and British Supplementary Treaty.

    The Taiping Rebellion

    The Tai Ping Tian Guo, meaning "the Kingdom of Heavenly Peace" in Chinese, was a group of "Christian Chinese Rebels", led by Hong Xiuquan, who believed that he had been selected by God to replace to Qing Dynasty, which had become corrupt, and make his own. They marched into Nanjing and decided to reform their ranks instead of overthrowing the dynasty forever. That let the Qing soldiers started inproving and being better than the Tai Ping Tian Guo.

    Opium War Part 2

    Britain and France, who wanted to change the Treaty of Nanjing so that Great Britain could get more goods from China. Lots of Chinese officials arrested citezens on a Chinese boat for piracy. When the British protested, saying that the boat was theirs, the War started. In 1858, the Chinese signed the Treaty of Tianjin, so U.S., Britain, Russia, and France could send officials to Beijing. China would not let them enter. That started fighting until China let the officials enter in 1860.
  • The Qing Dynasty Loses Power

    Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the man who first proposed the Three Gorges Dam, led a revolution and toppled the Qing Dynasty. Also, there had been bad ruling so people started believing the Qing Dyansty had lost the Mandate of Heaven.
