    Columbus Arrives in the Americas

    Spanish event.
    As the old saying goes, "In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue."
  • 1521

    Hernan Cortes Conquers the Aztecs

    Spanish event.
    In 1521, Hernan finally conquered Tenochtitlan, after the rest of the empire had joined the Spanish or had fallen.
  • 1533

    Pizarro Conquers Cuzco

    Spanish event.
    Even though Pizarro conquered Cuzco, the Inca empire would still last a little while longer.
  • 1534

    French Try Unsuccessfully to Make a Colony

    French event.
    In 1534, Jacques Cartier tried to colonize near present-day Quebec, but failed to do so. However, this was the start of the fur trade with the Indigenous Americans.
  • 1535

    Pizarro Founds Lima

    Spanish event.
    Around 2 years after he conquered Cuzco, the capital, he founded Lima, the present/past day capital of Peru.
  • 1572

    Inca Are Finally Conquered

    Spanish event.
    The Inca were conquered in 1572, almost 40 years after Cuzco was brought down.
  • Roanoke Colony Established

    English event.
    In 1585, the Roanoke colony, known for being the colony at the center of the mystery of the Roanoke mystery, was established. As it was implied, it was not successful.
  • Port-Royal Established by French

    French event.
    In 1603, Samuel de Champlain colonized Port-Royal (or Annapolis-Royal in Nova-Scotia present day).
  • Jamestown Colony Established

    English event.
    In 1607, the first successful English colony was established, leading to many more successful colonies in the coming century, and thus the original 13 colonies.

  • Quebec is Settled

    French event.
    5 years later, in 1608, Samuel de Champlain settled a place they called Quebec.
  • Mayflower Left For The First Time.

    English event.
    In 1620, the Mayflower left but returned twice, wasting a month of time. However, on their third try, they were successful.
  • Virginia Founded

    English event.
    In 1624, the second colony, Virginia, was founded.
  • Maryland Founded

    English event.
    In 1632, the British colonized Maryland, their 3rd colony. Its importance was among many other things, the "Act of Toleration".
  • New France Becomes a Royal Colony

    French event.
    In 1663, King Louis the 14th made New France a Royal Province.
  • New France Falls

    French event.
    In 1763, New France fell to the English, and French colonists in places like Quebec became British.
