In 1881 Italy joins the Dual Alliance of Germany and Austria-Hungary to form the Triple Alliance. The Triple Allaince was the powers of Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary and they were one of the two allainces that went to war with each other in Europe

In 1890 Kaiser forces Bismark to resign from his position after coming to power two years earlier. He also builds out Germanys navy. He built up Germanys military power which made other European nations worry.

After Germany let their treaty lapse in 1890 russia responds by making a defensive treaty with France in !892 and then again in 1894. This means that Germany will be out a big disadvantage if it were to attack either country.

throughout the early 20th century The great powers of Europe built out their militarys. This would also casue alot of tension between the countrys in Europe as well as help them fight. Militarism is the policy of keeping an army prepared for war and glorifying military power. Nationalism beliving ones country was better then another was also a driving force in this.

Britain makes an alliance with France and Russia which creates the Triple Entente. In this alliance Britain does not have to fight with France and Russia but it means that they will not fight against them. This is the second side in the wrold war.

Annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina creates a large amount of tension with Serbian leaders who had wanted to rule the area. This tension could help with Austria-Hungary decision to declare war on Serbia later in history

While visting the city of Sarajevo the archduke and his wife Sophie were assassinated by 19 year old Serbian Garilo Princip a member of the Black Hand.

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia. This event effectivly starts World War One and drags all of the other countrys into the war.

Britain declares war on Germany for invading Belguim which was a neutral country. This gets Britian involed in the World War.

By mid August all of the major European powers are at war with each other. The Allied powers or Britain, France and Russia are agains't the Central powers or Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary.
