Grand Forks Flood
A flood developed from snow in the Red River was in effect of Grand Forks to Fargo, North Dakota, East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and some of Canada. It was estimated to go up 49 feet, but the estimate was wrong. The flood water went up 54 feet. The flood effected EVERYBODY. Later on, the funds of 3.5 million were used on repairs. -
Columbine
The morning of April 20th, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were getting ready to kill people in their high school, Columbine. They had put bombs in the cafeteria, but they failed to go off. The two students went in and started shooting. 13 were killed, many injured, and than the two killed themselved. -
9/11
The morning of September 11th, 2001, 4 flights were hijacked by terrorists. 2 planes crashed into to Twin Towers, 1 plane into the Pentagon, and the last crashed in Pensylvania, but is believed to be targeting the White House or the Capital. An estimated amount of 3,000 people were killed. -
Hurricane Katrina
This hurricane was one of the strongest in the last 100 years. It had 125 mph wind. The hurricane ended August 30th. -
R.I.P. Destiny
On Valentines Day of 2006, I saw my sister's picture in the paper. The paper said a 2 year old had been found dead and left in her crib for a period of time.
Jody Weaver, 38, was living in an apartment with her daughter, Savannah, and her twins, Devon and Destiny. When Jody found her daughter, Destiny, dead in her crib, she didn't want to let go. She kept Destiny in the crib for 12 days just reading to her or looking at her. She says the baby died of the flu. My Sister <3 -
Virginia Tech
In Blacksburg, Virginia, Seung-Hui Cho went into different buildings shooting his fellow classmates at Virginia Tech.
33 died including himself while 23 were injured. -
Osama Bin Laden's Death
The U.S. had been on the mission to get Bin Laden for many years before they did. They had been investigating for quite a bit on wear they would be able to find him. Finally, troops went to his residents and killed him. His body was dropped at the bottom of the ocean to rot. I recommend seeing Zero Dark Thirty if you have not already. -
Colrado Wildfires
Colorad had a very dry winter and was stuck in a drout. The wildfire started in June and ended in August. -
Colorado's "Batman" Shooting
During the midnight priemere of The Dark Knight Rises, James Holmes through tearing gas into the move theather room. He came in armed. He killed 12 people and injured 58 others. It was said that Holmes was watching the movie, and about 20 minutes in he went out the exit door to get his guns. The subject is a touchy one for my family and I. I was supposed to be there with a friend than cancelled the day before. He didn't have anybody to go with so did not go either. -
Jessica Ridgeway
The morning Jessica Ridgeway was walking to her school from her home in westminister, Colorado, she was abducted. 5 days after she went missing, 2 men found the torso of her body. Her head, arms, and legs were missing. Oct. 5th is when Austin Sigg was arrested. The remainings of her body were found in his home. -
Hurricane Sandy
This hurricane is the 2nd costliest in the U.S. ever. It had 109 mph winds. This hurricane ended Oc. 31st. -
Sandy Hook Shooting
After killing his own mother, Adam Lanza went to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. He used one of his guns to get into the school. After hearing the first shots, teachers started hiding their students. He moved his way into a Kindergarden room, where he killed 14 children and their substitute teacher. After that, he went to another room, killed the teacher, and 6 of the children. Children of ages 6 and 7 were killed along with 6 adults. -
North Korea Tries to Bomb U.S.
Kim Jong-un is North Korea's leader. Threats were made towards the U.S. from him saying that we would be bombed. -
Boston Marathon
At least 145 people were injured during the 2 bombimngs that went off seconds from eachother at the Boston marathon. 3 people had been found dead. There arent any leads on who did this.
