    This election happened in 1789. Apparently the vote was all unanimous. George Washington was a Federalist. John Adams was his vice president.

    A tax on whiskey in 1791 led to a rebellion of farmers. The President, George Washington, sent the American army to stop it, and it was successful.This showed the strength of our army. The farmers stopped soon after that.

    January 27, 1801 is when John Marshall was appointed to Chief Justice. He was nominated for this position by John Adams.He was a leader of the federalist party in Virgina. He also served in the house of representatives from 1799-1800.

    This party was started in the 1790’s.John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were having disagreements about how the country should be run. The party was specifically started by Thomas Jefferson. They opposed the federalists.

    The Federalist Party was the first political party in America. They controlled the federalist government until 1801 and started in the early 1794. Alexander Hamilton was the creator of this party. They lost the election of 1800, but then regained some power in the War of 1812. They then mainly vanished during the Era of Good Feelings.

    This happened in 1798. It was a French attempt to bribe the United States. They demanded payment before talks could begin on the issue of French seizure of neutral American ships. Then we sent over 3 agents, whom we don’t know the names of. So we called the X Y & Z.

    1798 passed by Federalists. They were declared a law by John Adams. These laws were considered unconstitutional. This made it a crime to publish negative things about the government or president.

    This allowed the president to deport anyone he might think is jeopardizing the safety of the United States. This was passed in 1798. This was eventually thrown out, for it was a violation of the bill of rights.

    March 4, 1801 is the day that Thomas Jefferson became the 3rd president of the United States. The election of Jefferson created the two party system in the government of our country. This election was one of the most controversial elections in our nations history. This election was the first time that the people running for President campingned to try to win the election. In this election the Electoral College vote was tied.

    In 1803, Thomas Jefferson and his supports pushed for this Act. This made many Native Americans moved west of the Mississippi.Over 15,000 Cherokee Indians had to walk over hundreds of miles to move to new land which was later called the Trail of Tears. Many people died because of this act mostly being children and the elderly who where forced to move.

    The first expedition on the Pacific Coast of the United States. Thomas Jefferson sent them on this expedition. He hoped to find many waterways in the new land purchase. The journey lasted from 1804-1806.

    The Embargo Act happened in 1807. Thomas Jefferson made this act but it didn’t help the people in the south because that was how they made money. It was putting a ban on trade with Britain and France while Napoleon was in power. It was removed on March 1, 1809 which was the last day of Thomas Jefferson’s presidency.

    John Adams was one of the founding fathers of the United States. On March 4, 1797 he became the second president of the United States. In this election both people where Federalist and whoever came in second was considered the vice president. In the end Adams won the vote with 71 electoral college votes and Jefferson with 68.

    The non-intercourse act regulated trade between the Native Americans and non Indians. This act replaced the Embargo Act of 1807. This took away all of the embargo's except those going to French and British Ports. This act was put into place on March 1, 1809.

    This war happened from September 11, 1812- December 24, 1814. This war happened between Americans and the British because of trade restrictions with Britain’s ongoing war with France. They ended up burning down the white house. The Americans gained control over Lake Erie. The Americans ended up winning the War of 1812.

    This battle took place on January 8, 1815. It was the final and major battle of the War of 1812. The British Army wanted to take control of New Orleans but the American army, led by Andrew Jackson, defeated them. We signed the Treaty of Ghent and that ended the war.

    On March 5, 1820 they changed the voting laws. The law used to be that you have to be white, male, 21, and having to own land. Then they changed the law so that they didn’t have to own land. This made a big difference in how many people voting and stuff.

    The Missouri Compromise was written by Henry Clay. It was set into place in 1820. The compromise prohibited slavery in much of the Louisiana Territory. This balanced out the slave states and free states.

    James Monroe created the Monroe Doctrine. It stated that no foreign nations
    should cross the border of the Western Hemisphere and to not come into America. The first
    spech about the doctrine was oon Decenber 2, 1823. The doctrine introduced the idea of no European intervention with affairs.

    In 1824, the Supreme Court gave power to federal government to
    regulate the trade between the states. New York was trying to regulate the steamboat travel
    between themselves and New Jersey. In the end they said that the state could only regulate
    trade within the borders of that state. They also said that federal government ruled trade between
    different states.

    This was a court case that happened in 1818. Maryland wanted to pass this thing to put taxes on the bank. James W. McCulloch refused to pay the taxes. He was the cashier of the bank in Baltimore.

    On February 9, 1825 John Quincy Adams became the president of the United States after the election of 1824. This election was decided by the House of Representatives. This was the first election to happen after the 12th amendment was put into place. This was also the only election when the person with the most electoral votes didn’t become president.

    This election happened in 1824. He was the 7th president of the United States. He was nicknamed Old Hickory. He supported slavery and he made the Indian Removal. Some people think of him as a real villain, or a hero.

    This was a court case in 1832 where the U.S Supreme Court where Georgia passed a law that all Native Americans in the state have to leave. The Supreme Court Justice John Marshall declared the law unconstitutional. This was a big moment in history. This started the law of judicial review.
  • Closing of the U.S. Bank

    Closing of the U.S. Bank
    The Bank of the United States was created in 1791. Congress created it to make loans to farmers and businesses. The second bank of the U.S got vetoed by Andrew Jackson so it closed. This happened on March 1, 1836.
