John Marshall (September 24, 1755 – July 6, 1835) was the fourth Chief Justice of State whose court opinions helped lay the American Constitution and made the Supreme Court Justice of the United States.
Marshall dominated for 3 court appearances and played a big role in development in the American Legal System. -

James Monroe (April 28, 1758- July 4, 1831) was the fifth president in the United States. Monroe was the last president to be considered a founding father of the United States of America. He fought in the american revolutionary war alongside fellow Presidents. He was also famous for the Monroe Doctrine that he signed in place for some laws. -

The Federalist Party was the first American political party, from the early 1790s to 1816. They established this party to help keep things under control during presidential times. They still use this party today because they don’t want to get a new one and drop history. -

The original Constitution was proposed in 1787. It was ratified by the states and and contained very few individual rights. The Bill of Rights was added on the U.S constitution on December 15th 1791. The Bill of Rights has the 1st 10 amendments. -
Whiskey Rebellion
October 1st, 1794: Alexander Hamilton put a tax on liquor to raise money for the Treasury. The tax caused the farmers to become very angry, so they created a rebellion. The name of this rebellion was called Shay’s Rebellion. -
XYZ Affair
The XYZ Affair was an incident of US Foreign Relations involving US and France and un-named French diplomats who used the code names of X, Y, and Z. Under the instruction of the French diplomat Talleyrand , X Y and Z were to demand bribes and payments from the US envoys in exchange to seede of French hostility to US merchant ships as a result of the US entrance into the Jay Treaty with Great Britain. The Quasi War ensued from 1798-1800, and the French seized over two-thousand American Ships. -
Alien Act
It gave the President more power, some feared that it was almost like a king. It allowed the president to imprison or deport aliens. Aliens are illegal immigrants in the United
States. The power only works if the aliens are suspected of activities posing a threat to the national government. -
Sedition Act
The Sedition Act allowed for punishment of those who criticized the government either verbally or in writing. This act made many felt was unconstitutional and was unfair. they also felt that the law was designed to keep Federalist in power and weaken republicans. -
Election of Thomas Jefferson
1800: Thomas Jefferson was a Democratic-Republican. He was elected president on December 3rd, 1800. Jefferson didn’t want a national government, he wanted small state governments. -
Marbury v. Madison
The case involved William Marbury, one of the judges appointed by Adams. Adams made the appointment on his last night as president. Jefferson had told Madison not to deliver the forms to Marbury. Marbury sued Madison, saying that he was the judge. Congress ruled in favor of Madison saying that the last minute appointment was unconstitutional. -
Louisianna Purchase
The United States purchased approximately 828,000,000 square miles of French Territory. It stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. There were 15 states created or at least part of the states from this land deal. This was considered one of the most important achievements of thomas Jefferson’s presidency. -
Lewis and Clark
Lewis and clark was the 1st transcontinental expedition to the Pacific coast undertaken by the united states. The expedition started 1804 and ended in 1806. They left on May 14th, 1804 they met up at St. Charles Missouri, and they traveled along the Missouri River. Lewis and Clark returned home on March 23, 1806 by canoes. -
Embargo Act
December 21st, 1807: In 1807, a law was passed that put a ban on trade with other countries. The Americans expected the British to be harmed from the law. Their expectations were wrong because it backfired and it caused us to lose all the supply’s that we needed. -
Election of James Madison
December 7th, 1808: James Madison was elected president in the year of 1808. James Madison was a Democratic-Republican and was president until 1817. His total years in presidency were 1809 to 1817. Madison served a total of two terms as president. -
Non-Intercourse Act
March 1st, 1809: The Non-Intercourse Act is a law that allowed americans to trade with all other nations except for Britain and France. This occurred because we were losing the supply’s that we were receiving from other nations. Therefore, the Non-Intercourse Act was created to prevent trade with Britain and France. -
War of 1812
September 11th, 1812: During the war of 1812, the Americans used a ship called ‘’Old Ironsides’’ to attack the British. Most of the officers knew only a little about warfare. Even though the Americans were not ready to go to war, we still defeat the British with only 16 ships. -
McCulloch v. Maryland
In the court case Chief Justice John Marshall ruled that no state has the right to control any federal organization within its borders. The ruling strengthened federal power. It also allowed the Bank of the United States to continue, which helped the economy to expand. -
Monroe Doctrine
U.S. foreign-policy statement first enunciated by President James Monroe on Dec. 2, 1823, declaring the Western Hemisphere off-limits to European colonization.
