Hunting as religion. The caves of southern France are a unit I do every year. The animals and the quality of the art are outstanding.

Ocher, charcoal, and heavy reds were common. The importance of the depiction of the hunter and the animals is stylized and conveys a story of the hunt.

Very common sculpture that was found all over Europe. These statues are all over Europe. These showed the value of fertility for the clan's survival.

Geometric shapes and early use of math and language. researchers think these shapes either identified individuals in a group or were an early calendar or counting of people and livestock.

Very common artifact. This is another fertility carving. These were small and portable. It seemed that many people carved these.

Lion wall, masterfully drawn in charcoal. this panel of the cats is incredible. Lions and Rhinos as well as bears and Wooly Mamouths roamed these areas and are on the walls.

All over the world at about the same time, early artists carved and painted rocks. There is a layer of veneer that when chipped away is striking to see.

Depictions of animals as food, and reverent religious elements.

There are many examples of Rhinos in these caves, the fact that African species wandered north after the glaciers receded is interesting. Perhaps this species was hunted out in this area.

These are all through Spain and France. there are certain communication patterns in these marks, these pop up all over the place in these caves and rock faces.

Art of ancient times. The depiction of the cycle of life and the birth of new life here is interesting.

The half-man, half-animal. This is a figure that has transitioned into an animal and man combination.

Early Aliens. This panel I have seen in person and is very large. This location is called The Gallery. It is deep in the Utah desert.

Rock carvings and paintings. There are many circles, or spirals, that could be counting, the cosmos, or a calander.

Rare and skilled carvings, common in Isreal and Syria.

First ox being documented in rock art. This must have taken some time as the tools had to be repeatedly gouged over the stone to create this image.

Many cultures have examples of cave and rock art, these usually date in the ranges of 45,000 years ago to about 5,000 years ago.
