Pregnancy Timeline

  • First Month

    A. fetus is about 6-7 mm (grain of rice)
    B. facial features begin to form along with blood cells and lungs, stomach and liver
    C. no real movement at this point
  • Second Month

    A. the fetus is now about 2.5 cm long and weighs about 1/3 of an ounce
    B. The neural tube and sensory organs form
    C. the baby can start to move slightly
  • Third Month

    A. the fetus is now about 8-10 cm long and weighs about an ounce
    B. reproductive organs are starting to develop
    C. the baby can now open and close its mouth and fists
  • Fourth Month

    A. the fetus is now about 4.5 inches and weighs 3.5 ounces
    B. the heart and blood vessels are now formed
    C. the baby's eyes can blink now
  • Fifth Month

    A. the baby is now about 6 inches long and weighs 10 ounces
    B. the baby's internal organs are becoming more mature
    C. the baby can now stretch, make faces and yawn
  • Sixth Month

    A. the baby now weighs about 1.4 pounds
    B. organs are still maturing
    C. The baby can hiccup which the mother can feel and begins to notice when it is upside down
  • Seventh Month

    A. the baby now weighs about 2 pounds and is about 15 inches long
    B. organs are maturing and fat layers are forming
    C. begins to start changing position
  • Eighth Month

    A. baby is about 17 inches long and weighs about 5 pounds
    B. brain is growing a lot during this time
    C. the baby kicks which can be seen from the outside
  • Ninth Month

    A. baby is about 20 inches long and weighs about 7 pounds now
    B. the lungs have finally fully developed
    C. baby becomes less active and sits at the bottom of the women's abdomen
