Proclamation of 1763
Parliament created this proclamation in order to stop the colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists did not like this and reacted by moving West anyways. -
Sugar Act
This act was passed to cut the taxes on sugar and molasses in half so that the colonists wouldn't feel the need to smuggle. In reaction to this, the colonists rebelled and still studied -
Stamp Act
This act forced the colonists to purchase specific stamped paper for many things such as legal documents, license, newspaper, etc. A group called the Sons of Liberty harassed custom workers, stamp agents and sometimes royal governors. This Act lead to the first gathering of delegates where the created the first Deceleration of Rights and Grievances. -
Repeal of Stamp Act
Parliament decided to repeal the Stamp Act because of the colonists rebelling and protesting against the Act. Though they took away one rule, in order to keep their power and authority, they issued the Declaratory Act. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Acts imposed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea imported into the colonies. Many colonists believed that Parliament had no right to impose any taxes on the them, viewing taxation as an abuse of Great Britain’s constitutional relationship with the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
Colonists got tired of all the taxes and laws, so they fought back by attacking the British soldiers. The colonists used this to their advantage and called it a propaganda to make it seem like they did not fight -
Cutter gaspee burned
Burning of the gaspee was an act of open civil defiance of British authority when Rhode Islanders boarded and sank the revenue cutter Gaspee in Narragansett Bay. -
Tea Act
In order to help the struggling English Tea Companies, Parliament passed the Tea Act. Colonists didn't approve of this act and many colonies successful efforts were made to prevent the tea from being landed. -
Boston Tea Party
This was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts in which they dumped 340 chests, 18,000 pounds, of British East India Company tea into the Boston Harbor -
Intolerable Acts
Parliament passed the Intolerable Act in response to the Boston Tea Party, It ultimately shut down the Boston Harbor. In response, the colonists assembled their first continental congress and created the first deceleration of rights.
