    The Missouri Compromise was an 1820 law that kept the balance of power in the Senate between the free states and the slaves states It helped lead to the Civil War because it caused tension between the North and the South causing violence and outrage.

    The Wilmot Proviso outlawed slavery in any territory the United States might acquire from the War with Mexico. The people thought that Congress had no right to tell them where they could and couldnt go. So it led to controversy over the territories and the Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 was a plan crafted by Henry Clay that helped the California problem. For the North, Calinfornia would be a free state and Washington D.C. would stop slave trade. For the South they passed laws saying that Congress would help capture run away slaves. It led to the Civil War because it worked for a while but then states wanted freedom or slavery and it caused more tension and the Fugitive Slave Act.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe who was strongly against slavery and her book showed slave holders and non slave holders how slavery really was and how bad it was. It lead to the Civil War because it made the South mad and they said the book was full of false information, but of course the North agreed with the book.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was a bill passed that established the territories of Kansas and Nebraska and gave their residents the right to decide whether to allow slavery. Of course the North and South fought over the state of Kansas whether it be a free state or a slave state, which led into lots of violence.

    The Sack of Lawerence was when a group of Antislavery people came into Kansas and attacked it, destroying buildings and the house of the gonvernor of the antislavery governtment. It led to the Civil War because it made more people angry and cause more violence to take place, and more tension between the North and South

    The Pottawatomie Massacre was when John Brown and seven other men went into Lawrence and broke out in violence and murdered five people This led to the Civil War because it caused violence in Congress

    Dred Scott v. Standford
    Dred Scott v. Standford was when Dred Scott, a slave, wanted to sue for his freedom because he lived in a free state, but was ruled against him because he was not considered a citizen. Made the North angry because they were against slavery and thought he should be able to be free.

    The Election of 1860 was the election that included Lincoln, Douglas, Breckenridge, and Bell. Lincoln and Douglas were the top two with Lincoln winning the final vote. This led to Southerners getting mad because they thought Lincoln was going to get rid of slavery over all. So they seceded from the United States.

The Northerners said that it was unconstitutional to secede from the Union and they tried to compromise but it did not work which led to the most violence between the North and South
