    They knew that the Africans were good and hard workers so they sold the africans off as slaves because of this. This had an affect on the Africans long after because of the way that these poor people were treated.

    The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade
    The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade began in the mid 1500's and the late 1800's. More then 11 million African people were taken to the new world and sold as slaves. A slave is a person who is someone's property that can be bought and sold. About 10 million people were sold to people in South America, Central America and the West Indies. About another half a million people were sold to North America. This started happening because the new world were lacking a work force.

    Steam Engine Invented
    Thomas Savery was an English engineer that first thought of the idea of the steam engine. He got the idea in 1698 through based on Denis Papen's pressure cooker. The steam engine was invented to make lots of things easier. Two big things that were made easier were transportation and trade work. This still has impact on today's society because steam engines are still used. If someone hadn't invented this then we might not have half the things we have now.

    In 1764 a man named James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny. He watched his spinning wheel get knocked over and when it was laying on the floor he noticed the wheel still spinning. James figured that if the wheel was spinning it could spin more then one wheel of cotton. He named it Spinning Jenny after his daughter. The spinning Jenny was invented to make sewing easier. Seeing that the Spinning Jenny had more then one wheel, it made more money.

    Initially, the convicts were being sent to America but once the American war of Independence finished, America refused to accept any more convicts so England had to find a new place. New Holland (Now Australia) was just discovered so England felt that it was a good spot to transport the convicts.

    The First fleet leaves england with convicts and free settlers. The jails in enland are over crowded and they are sending the convicts over to New Holland to make some rooms.

    Once the First Fleet had arrived, the English people thought that the land was empty but there were indigenous people on the land. They then proceeded to try and kick the aboriginals off of the land. Some aboriginals let it go but some put up a fight. The english were sick of them putting up a fight so every aboriginal they saw, they proceeded to kill. Aboriginals then left and went either north or west.

    First Fleet arrives in New Holland/ Australia
    The First fleet arrives in Botany Bay with all the convicts and free settlers that were sent or decided to go there. The First Fleet landed in Botany Bay because it was the first safe place to land. Phillip didn't land in Botany Bay because he kept going south and landed at Sydney Cove.

    The Steam Train was invented in 1829 by a man named George Stephenson. He adapted to the idea of the steam engine invented by Thomas Savery and made it into a locomotive/ train. The Steam Train was invented to make transportation of people, animals and cargo easier. This invention has an affect on today's world/society because people are working on ways to improve it and it all came from this invention.

    In 1901, the Australian governenment restricted what races could come into Australia, pretty much giving it a "White Australia Policy" restricting people of asian descent. At immigration, if asians went to get into the country they sent them straight back. This lasted over a 25 year period and the prime minister at the time said "This is the greatest thing we have ever achieved.
  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    On the 28th of June in 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. He was heir to the throne and he wanted to make Serbia join with Austria-Hungary. Some locals didn't want this to happen and therefore assassinated him when he was driving back to the place he was staying. There was several attempts and the diver took the wrong turn. They actually drove past a guy that had tried to assassinate him before and as he was walking out of a sandwich bar he shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

    Britain declares war on Germany. France went to attack Austria-Hungary through Belgium whilst pulling Britain in to the war. Britain was the country that made it a world war because of the British Colony. All of the other countries that were allied to Britain were made to go to fight. This caused other countries to get involved and that is why it is called the 'World War'
  • Gallipoli Battle

    Gallipoli Battle
    In 1915, the Australian troops went to war against Gallipoli. Australians didn't come home with many troops after this war seeing Gallipoli went home with the victory. The Australians went to battle against Gallipoli because they were part of the British Colony and Britain wanted to go to war against them. Once all of the British Colony was involved, it was then called a world war. This had an affect on Australian soldiers because of the loss of men and how we lost the battle.
