Odysseus comes to land of Cyclopes

Odysseus and his men sail to the land of the Cyclopes, a land rich with food and drink and supplies. Odysseus and his men run into Polyphemus, a Cyclops, who traps them in his cavern. Odysseus and his men eventually escape, but Polyphemus curses them, asking Poseidon to kill Odysseus' crew and make him never return home.

Odysseus comes to Aeolus' Island

Odysseus comes to Aeolus' island, who gives Odysseus the winds so he may return home faster. Odysseus' crew release the winds though, and Odysseus is blown right back to Aeolus' island, who will not help them a second time.

Odysseus' men kill Helios' cattle

Odysseus comes ashore near a herd of Helios' cattle, which are sacred and not to be touched. Odysseus' crew members, however, kill several cows and eat the meat. Helios is very angry, and calls upon Zeus to smite Odysseus.

Odysseus marooned with Kalypso

Odysseus loses his ships and crew after his men kill the sacred cattle of Helios. Eventually he washes up on Ogygia, where he spends ten years with the goddess Kalypso.

Odysseus comes to Phaeacia

Odysseus departs from Kalypso's island by raft, but Poseidon stirs up a storm for him. Odysseus lands near the land of the Phaeacians, who graciously grant him hospitality.
