    The first attempt at Roanoke Island
    The first English attempt at Roanoke, was ran by Ralf Lane. It was 22 years before Jamestown and 37 years before the Pilgrams founded Massachusetts. The whole colony returned to England with Sir Francis Drake, who had just destroyed the spanish colony of St. Augustine, because they were in desperate need of supplies.

    The second attempt at Roanoke Island
    This time at Roanoke, John White brought over100 men, women, and children. When they ran out of supplies, Whte returned to England to restock. He returned to Roanoke Island in 1590, but when he arrived all of the colonists had disappeared. The only clue was the croatoan carved in a tree.

    It was first called Carolina but because of internal problems it was later seperated into North Carolina and South Carolina. The colony was named after the latin word Carolus, for Charles the first of England. The colony was Founded by virginians. The colony was best known for indigo, rice, and tobacco.

    It was a protest againist British navigation acts. The leader was John Culpeper. The rebels ran the colony for two years but then were sent out. John was accused of trason but was never punished.

    When all but one proprietor sold their shares to King George North Carolina became a royal colony.The settlers were constantly fighting with the governors over political and economic problems.

    The first Provincial Congress in the colonies. It was three days long. They discissed all the things the colonies were having problems.

    Penelope Barker organized the edenton tea party to support the American cause "no taxation with out representation". The women of Edenton NC protested the Tea Act.
  • Mecklenburg Resolves

    Mecklenburg Resolves
    Some citzens of Mecklenburg met in Charlotte on May 20, 1775. They signed a Declaration of Independence from Britian. It was the first in American history. The date is still on the state seal.

    Halifax Resolves
    The resolves were the very first instuctions to vote for independence from Great Britan. They were given to the first continental congress by the fourth Provinicial Congress.
  • Hillsborough Convention

    Hillsborough Convention
    The convention was debating whether or not to ratify the newly proposed federal constitution. The federalists wanted a strong central government while the antiferalists wanted a weaker central government. the debate continued in the fayetteville convention.
  • The Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    The Battle of Guilford Courthouse
    The battle of Guilford Couthouse was a bloody war between the British and the Americans. General Cornwallis and General Greene were the Generals for this battle. The British won the battle but their numbers were dwindling.
  • The current NC Constitution

    The current NC Constitution
    It is a state constitution that states how the state of North Carolina should be governed. The constitution has 14 articles. It was last changedin the 1970s.
  • Leandro vs. NC

    Leandro vs. NC
    In 1994 a lawsuit was filed against North Carolina. The plaintiff stated that all children should have a good education no matter the wealth of the family. The court ruled in favor of Leandro.
  • Hoke vs. State

    Hoke vs. State
    Hoke appealed his convictions for rape and failing to provide a change of address. the court ruled in favor of the state.
