Giovanni Da Verrazzano was chosen by king Francis, in 1524, to search for a "northwest passage" to Asia through America. He left aboard on march 1, 1524 and he reached North Carolina and proceeded north to explore the coastline.

Captain John Smith was an adventurer and solider, and he was one of the founder of the Jamestown, Virginia, settlement. James was one of the 105 English settlers who sailed from England to Virginia, United States. They sailed on December 19th 1606 and landed in Virginia April 26th, 1607.

The "Mayflower Compact" was signed on 11 November 1620, onboard the Mayflower shortly after she came to anchor off Provincetown Harbor.The Pilgrims had obtained permission from English authorities to settle in Virginia, whose northern border at the time extended up to what is now New York.
