    Battle of Rehe
    On February 23, the offensive was launched, and they took over Chaoyang and Kailu two days after that. The Japanese 4th Calvary Brigade encountered resistance of the Chinese, and after days of fighting theJapanese took over Chifeng. The Chinese formed a counterattack on the Japanese 6th Division the same day. at one time they penetrated to near the Japanese headquarters. On March 4, the Japanese and the 1st Tank Company with Type 89 Tanks took, Chengde the capital of Rehe.

    Engelbert Dollfuss was assassinated after a failed coup attempt by Nazi agents. His successor Kurt Schuschnigg maintained regime until Adolf Hitler annexed Austria in 1938. Dollfuss served as Minister for Forest & Agriculture. On October 4, 1933, a Nazi tried to kill him. They fired 2 shots, but Dollfuss got slightly wounded. Nazi's dressed as police and soldiers, broke into the chancery where the government had a meeting. It took Dollfuss an hour and a half to die.

    The German Nazis used the games for propaganda. U.S. and Europe called for a boycott. They thought Germany would abuse there human rights. It failed. Jews were banned to play in anything they were hosting or had. The Nazis took down Anti-Jewish signs. The games were supposed to be in Barcelona, Spain but he Spanish Civil War broke out. Germany got the most medals. After the games, persecution of Jews continued. within 3 years after the Olympiad the host unleashed WW2. The Holocaust was after.

    Japan needed resources to be an industrial & military power. They expanded into 3 other countries. Japan was controlled by strict military officers. They wanted to show that they were strong & could subjugate other countries. They really wanted China since it was traditionally the power in East Asia.It was called the 'Second-Sino Japanese War.' The Japanese committed illegal crimes during the almost 8 year war. They abducted women, they practiced bayonet on dead Chinese civilians.

    Britain had better advantages than Germany including planes and a radar system. These battles were over the UK. By the victory it saved them a ground war. The Germans had poor intelligence during these air battle. Germany had 1,300 and Britain had 600. Britain's planes could make sharper turns, had more capacity for ammunitions and weapons. The Germans didn't have a Navy. After losing so many times, Hitler permanently stopped any landings on Britain's land, and stopped the Battle of Britain.

    Some important stuff happened the day before this. The first wave of Japanese troops landed with artillery fire. They were to take no prisoners. They captured roped up soldiers and stabbed them to death. Those who had no resistance, such as the Royal Medical Corps, were led up a hill and killed. The Japanese threatened the Chinese and British with a slow death. The British finally surrendered control of Hong Kong on Christmas Day. The Japanese troops landed there and killing emerged.

    At around 5:00 PM, an EF4 crashed through the main business district of the town and residential part. An EF4 is pretty high on the tornado scale. It ruined 500 buildings, killed 52, and injured 350 others. It didn't have a full tunnel in Talala, but by the time it reached Pryor it did. The main street got the worst damage and 2 hospitals were also destroyed. The towns grocery store was demolished. They also got torrential rain. They were transported for medical help. Those not injured, helped.
  • Smith Mine Disaster

    This was the worst coal mining disaster in Montana, and the 43rd worst in the U.S. according to (NIOSH). At around 9:57 AM, an explosion ripped through Smith Mine #3. Out of the 77 men working, only 3 made it out alive. One of the rescue workers died shortly afterwards. They either died from injury, or suffocated from carbon monoxide and methane gas. It was never reopened. The mine was located between the towns Bearcreek and Washoe. The explosion was connected with the build up of methane gas.

    Music Artist James Davis becomes Louisianas 47th Governor
    He was a singer and songwriter. He was a nationally popular country and gospel music singer from the 1930s to 60s. He occasionally recorded and performed as late as the 1990s. He was admitted to 6 halls of fame. Including the Country, Southern Gospel Music Association, and others. He was elected governor as a democrat. His first term was 1944-48. He was apart of the public service commission, before becoming governor. He hired a staff member from the public service commission.
  • NHL Player Maurice Richard's Achievement

    NHL Player Maurice Richard's Achievement
    Richard was from the Montreal Canadians. He was the first NHL Player to score 50 goals in 1 season. They used the phrase "50 goals in 50 games", which refers to scoring 50 goals in the first 50 games. Scoring 50 goals in 50 games or less in the NHL is a rare achievement. Richard got this achievement in his 50th and final game of the 1944-45 season. This has been accomplished by more than one NHL player later on. Besides this, he also scored the leagues first career 500th goal, retiring in 1960.
