  • India Cyclone

    The cyclone resulted in a 40-foot tidal wave that detroyed most of the city and many nearby ships. Approximately 300,000 people died.
  • Preshtigo Fire

    This fire was in Wisconsin due to the drought and high winds. The fire also jumped across the river, engolfing 12 towns in flames. Nearly 1,200 people were left dead.
  • Hurricane Galveston

    This was a category 4 hurricane with an estimated 135 mph winds. An estimated 8,000 people died in this disaster.
  • San Francisco Fire and Earthquake

    This was a 7.7 to 7.9 magnitude earthquake. Approximately 3,000 people died, and those who survived were left without a home.
  • Haiyuan Earthquake

    This 8.5 magnitude earthquake killed approximately 235,500 people. It hit the Haiyuan County area in the Republic of China.
  • Tri-State Tornado

    This tornado ripped through Illinois, Indiana and Missouri. It destroyed 15,000 homes and killed 700 people.
  • Okeechobee Hurricane

    This storm had sustainable winds up to 140 mph. There was also flooding for weeks that killed 2,500 lives.
  • Bhola Cyclone

    This is the deadliest cyclone ever recorded. It hit East Pakistan and India's West Bengal. Floods and increased water levels caused about 500,000 people to die.
  • Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami

    This was an undersea earthquake that had a magnitude of 9.3. It hit the west coast of Indonesia and several other countries. The resulted tsunami killed between 225,000 and 230,000 people.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina is the fourth most severe Atlantic hurricane recorded. Due to failed levees, 80% of New Orleans was flooded and destroyed.
