    The Magnitude of this earthquake was 9 and there were around 20,000 fatalities. Some interesting facts are that the earthquake occurred on all saints day, which is a special day for religious people of Portugal. Many people were worshipping in a church when this incident occurred. Fires that started burned for five days after. Another interesting fact is that thirty minutes after the earthquake, a tsunami hit the city that almost destroyed Lisbon and adjoining areas.

    The VEI of this event was 6 and the number of fatalities was around 36,000. Some interesting facts are that the earthquake caused the top of the volcano to collapse into the ocean which then caused the tsunami. Another is that the fourth and final explosion created the loudest sound ever recorded in history, it could be heard from as far as central Australia.

Another is that the city of Hilo on the Big Island suffered about 300 million dollars in damage.

Subduction zones produce the strongest earthquakes as their structure allows more stress to accumulate before energy is released. Another is that the tsunami that occurred after the earthquake was responsible for the majority of the destruction.

Some interesting facts from this event was that the earthquake was thought to have had the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima-type bombs. Another is that the seafloor rupture caused trillions of tons of rocks to move, causing one of the largest magnitude earthquakes in forty years.

Another fact was that it occurred less than two months after a series of earthquakes that struck Indonesias Comblock island.
