    The Gnadenhutten Massacre

    A group of militiamen in Pennsylvania killed 96 Christian Delaware Indians because they were blamed for some attacks on the white settlers. Made them go to the cooper shop two at a time, and beat them with mallets. To the death.

    Created to manage all of the problems and things that had to do and come from land disagreements between the Indians and the U.S. Later renamed the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act

    Allowed the forced removal of a lot of Indian tribes from their ancestral lands to places (Indian Territory) west of the Mississippi River.
  • Indian Appropriation Act

    Indian Appropriation Act

    Established Indian reservations in territories that would later be Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The American government wanted to keep the Indians off of the land that they wanted.

    Sioux Treaty

    It was made to bring peace between the whites and the Sioux. There would only be peace if the Sioux went to live on the Black Hills reservation in the Dakota Territory.
  • Custer's Last Stand

    The 7th cavalry was defeated by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. The Sioux won, a huge victory, but still fled because they were afraid of the repercussions.
  • Dawes Act

    Allowed the government to break up the Native American lands and divide them into plots. Forced Native Americans to live in these plots, and if they did, then only then would they become U.S. citizens.

    U.S. Army opened fire on hundreds of men, women, and children, massacring them. 20 soldiers were then rewarded with the Medals of Honor.

    Basically changed the Dawes act so the five civilized tribes were also forced to move and live on plots of land.

    US Indian Reorganization Act

    Allowed the Indians to form their own tribal government system, which also ended the Dawes Act. This also resurrected the reservation system, which is still in place today.
