    Ms. Cartwright attended the University of Pittsburgh obtaining her Bachelor of Science and Mathematics, Summa cum laude. She continued her education at the University of Illinois where she wrote her dissertation on the “Philosophical Analysis of the Concept of Mixture in Quantum Mechanics”. She held fellowships with Carnegie, Danforth, and Woodrow Wilson. At the University of Illinois, she obtained her PhD, making her Dr. Cartwright.

    After Dr. Nancy Cartwright completed her doctorate she authored, co-authored, and contributed to an abundance of publications dealing in Quantum Physics. She was also heavy involved in research and writing pertaining to philosophy and religion. Her contributions to publications were numerous, tallying over 200. Some of which include ''How the Laws of Physics Lie'' (1983), ''Philosophy between Science and Politics Ideas in Context'' (2009), ''Relativism in the Philosophy of Science'' (2010).

    While holding a position in Durham and the Centre for Humanities Engaging Science and Societies (CHESS) she published one of her most well-known pieces. ''Improving Child Safety'', one of her more recent works, a moving publication of “deliberation, judgement, and empirical research” (Cartwright). At 73 years old Dr. Cartwright was still asking the hard questions.

    To this day she, mostly, resides in California where she wears many hats. She is currently a professor for the University of California, Durham University UK, and National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. She was and still is a very active member of the philosophical and scientific communities. Dr. Cartwright is not just a philosopher and teacher she is also a mentor, advisor, activist, wife, and mother.
