My Traditional to New Media Exposure Timeline

  • Battery-operated Portable Radio

    Battery-operated Portable Radio
Since we didn't have a television nor electricity at home when I was young, the first media means that I was exposed to was the Battery-operated Portable Radio of which I am very fond of listening, as my family recalls. From the name itself, the Battery-operated Radio uses two or more batteries as its power source. The duration of its operation depends on the battery life. As time passes these radios slowly evolved from bulk, big and heavy to slightly thinner, flat and portable ones.
  • Mobile Phone (Keypad)

    Mobile Phone (Keypad)
This is the first mobile phone that I got. A keypad mobile phone uses a set of buttons or keys bearing digits, symbols and/or alphabetical letters placed in order on a pad, which can be used as an efficient input device. It features a camera and a minimal storage space, and a great help in communicating with loved ones. It also allows media sharing.
  • Facebook

    Facebook
It was summer, and I was an incoming Grade 7 student when I first encountered Facebook and signed up my account. Its features were still minimal then, but it made me happy and excited. I wished it never changed though. Facebook is a social networking website where users can post comments, share photographs and post links to news, etc. Shared content can be made publicly accessible, or it can be shared only among a select group of friends or family, or with a single person.
  • The Internet

    The Internet
After "meeting" Facebook, I then became acquainted with the internet especially since research projects and assignments were given to me as a student. The Internet offers effective information sharing and communication globally using computers.
  • Computer

    Computer
Since we have our subject in ICF in JHS, I was exposed to computers. A computer is a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized data) and manipulates it for some result based on a program, software, or sequence of instructions on how the data is to be processed (WhatIs. com).
  • Smartphone

    Smartphone
I started to become familiar to smartphones when I was in JHS. Compared to keypad mobile phones, its features were more advanced. A smartphone is a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, Internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded applications (Dictionary).
  • Television

    Television
After 16 years, we finally had an LCD Television, and I got to enjoy it a few weeks before I left home. LCD TV is a television display technology based on a liquid crystal display. Like any other TVs, it has a variety of shows like news and entertainment, adventure, etc.
