I have a memory of being in church and not being able to read the words in the hymnal, so I would just sort of hum along. I can't remember exactly when I cracked the code.

Graduated from Poultney High School. Gave a speech, which has been since lost. My ambition at this point was to be tri-lingual: to be able to speak 3 languages (English, French, and ?).

College Graduaion. Wrote my senior thesis on Jane Austen.

Entered a doctoral program at Boston University. Was woefully unprepared for the discussions and expectations, particularly regarding literary theory, which was entirely new to me.

Began at UMass/Amherst in secondary teacher certification program. Was introduced to the concept of writing process! Whoa. Began to reflect on and understand my own development as a writer.
