Sam comes home from the battle at Lexington and Concord to his family in his uniform. He informs them that they have won. He and other guys at Yale signed up to fight for the Continental Army, but the problem is Sam's family are Tories, they lean towards the British side.

The Brown Bess because the Continentals need weapons. It's the only protection the Meekers have at their tavern. This brings trouble for Father when the British come looking for Tory weapons and Father doesn't have it.

After the Verplankspoint incident with Father about a month later the Meekers find out that Father had died on a British Prison ship from chloera.

Sam is home visiting while Colonel Parson is at Captain Starr's. While he and Tim are sitting talking, they hear noises.... cattle theif. Sam chases ater them, but they capture him instead and take him in for stealing and butchering cattle which he didn't. General Putanum wanted to make an example of someone for doing wrong, this was his chance to scare the other men.

After the American victory at Saratoga the French believed in the Americans, that they could really win. The French signed a treaty to join forces with the Americans.

They found Sam guilty when he really wasnt.

Ten days after being found guilty, Sam was executed. He was shot and killed.
