Birth of Muhammad
Muhammad was born in the year of 570 in Mecca which is located in Western Arabia. His name means "to praise, to glorify." Muhammad never knew his father, he died before he was born. -

Muhammad Becomes an Orphan
Muhammad's mother took him to visit his father's grave and on the way back to Mecca his mother took ill and died. She was buried in the village of Abwa. -

First Revelation
Muhammad would take long trips to a cave outside of Mecca when the town's materialism and idolatry got to him. One day he was visited by a strong prescence and he was told to recite words that would normally come from God. -

Muhammad Shares His Message
Convinced that his vision was the Angle Gabriel, Mohammad shares the message with his wife, family, and friends. These people are the first Muslims or "people who submit". These first teachings were gathered and eventually would become the Qur'an. -

Flees to Medina
He taught that Allah commanded for the destruction of all statues and idols, and the buisnessmen of Mecca did not like that, since it made them lose buisness. He fled to Medina, a nearby town. -

Night Journey
Mohammad is lifted up and transported from Medina to Jerusalem. He meets all the past prophets, including Jesus, along the way. After this journey, he eventually returns to Mecca with his followers. -

Death
In the couple years before his death, Mohammad returned to Medina to live. Three months before his death, he makes a final pilgrimage to Mecca, accompanined by tens of thousands of Muslims. He died shortly after returning to Mecca from an illness. -
Family Life and Marriage
Muhammad married a forty year old widow named Khadija when he was only twenty-five. He managed her business affairs and they had six children together.
