    After sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus sights a Bahamian island, believing he has reached East Asia. His expedition went ashore the same day and claimed the land for Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain, who sponsored his attempt to find a western ocean route to China, India, and the fabled gold and spice islands of Asia.

    Latin America came to fruition after European “discovery” of the New World. Countries such as Spain, France and Portugal colonized the region. Although most of Latin America was colonized by Spain, the countries of Portugal and France also had major influences on the region.

    Economic System
    In the colonization of Latin America there were added two economic systems the "Encomienda" and "Mita". The "Encomienda" consisted that the Native Americans had to work and pay a tribute to Spanish landowners, this ones were expected to protect and instruct the workers but in truth this was the opposite. And the "Mita" consisted that Spanish authorities could draft in Native Americans to work in mines in Peru.

    Between 1500 and 1600 the principal work was the mining because Latin America was full of minerals such as: gold, copper, silver, etc. So the minering was the mos important work that the New Spain had , and the only ones that get advantage of this were the Spaniards.
