    The XYZ affair was a political issue during the late 1790's between the United States and France. It lead to the Quasi-War. The conflict was over United States sailors being seized in the Carribbean, even though the United States were remaining nuetral in the wars and were in international waterways.

    A treaty between America and France that settled issues that erupted over the course of the Quasi-War, It settled a few main issues and many smaller issues. A main one established was that the French gained rights of Newfoundland and that each was to return publich ships catured during the war.

    The Louisiana Purchase was the purchasing of 828,000 square miles of land that was formarly claimed by France. The purchase was about 236 million in todays money. Overall The United States aquired 15 present states and land in 2 Canadian Provinces.

    The Embargo act was an embargo against Great Britian and France by the United States. The embargo was put into place because the British Royal Navy kept on stealing American seamen and forcing them to service on their ships. While the United States thought this would solve the problem their economy essentially died.

    The War of 1812 was a war between the United Kingdom and the United States. It was caused by the impressment of American sailors into the British Navy. The war ended in 1814 and though neither side lost territory the war had benefits for the United States in the fact that nationalism reached a new high.

    Treaty of Ghent
    The Treaty of Ghent was the peace treaty that ended the war of 1812. The negotiations happend in the city of Gent, a nuetral city thus giving the treaty it's name. After the treaty was signed American nationalism ran high.

    Monroe Doctrine
    The Monroe Doctrine was a foreign policy that stated any efforts by a European nation to colonize land in either North or South America would be viewed as an act of agression and that the US would intervine. Not only did the document say that it also included the the United States wouldn't interfere with existing Euoprean colonies.
