    The Yukon Gold rush help Canada's economy very much by the gold. At the time gold was one of the most valuable treasures and attracted many immigrants to help mine. At the start of the Yukon Gold rush around 100,000 people set out to find work. and shortly after another 30,000 came. With the large and fast growth it helped the Yukon's settlement and helped the North-West Territory.The gold rush left an infrastructure of supplies and was able to support the growth for in the future.

    The first cars were built in 1867 in the US, and started being imported to Canada in 1898. Canada started their own automotive industry. These cars were all made with a single cylinder engine. Within the next 15 years Canada had 50,000 cars built. after 25years of building Canada became the second largest vehicle producer and a major exporter of automobiles and auto parts.

    Canada had to choose to help Britain or to hold there troops. Wilfred laruiar was reluctant to get involved. Canada did not have a professional army at the time. This was the first time Canada sent troops overseas. as the war continued Canada started to recruit volunteers to go fight overseas and got over 6000 mounted men.Great Britain was the most powerful army and was very confident going to battle south Africa. After two months most of great Britain has surrendered in battle or in defeat.

    Italian physicist and radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi succeeds in sending the first radio transmission across the Atlantic Ocean. Marconi's biggest achievement came on the when he received a message sent from England at St. John’s, Newfoundland. Guglielmo Marconi showed detractors who told him that the curvature of the earth would limit transmission to 200 miles or less.

    The first airplane was made by a young engineer named Douglas McCurdy. Before Douglas made an airplane, Douglas would make kites to test the aerodynamics, he tried with many sizes from small to large.The first flight was called a plane but it was a man sized kite because he was being pulled by a steam engine and was able to get to 51m high. The greatest problems the pilots faced was as soon as the tilted one way they would not be able to correct and level out.

    Robert Borden was a conservative he became the leader in 1901 but couldn't win the election against Wilfred Laurier. Robert needed 111 seats to gain the majority and he got 132 seats. Wilfred lost 48 seats from his last election. Before Robert was a politician he was a Canadian lawyer. He was prime minister for 9 years (1911-1920)and was the third Nova Scotian to hold this office. Robert Bordon was able to achieve a great milestone after he was dead for 39 years, he was put on the $100 bill.

    Vancouver Island Coal Strike began16 Sept 1912. After the mines have been purchased, the new owners fired all the Canadian and American employees to hire cheap Asian workers. By spring 1913, 3500 miners from Nanaimo, Extension, Wellington and Ladysmith were off work, the United Mine Workers of America providing leadership and strike pay. Before there could be peace the strikers had a riot and the Canadian government restored peace with 1000militiamen. many rioters ended in jail the next winter.

    in the year 1913 over 400,000 immigrants came from Europe. some of the reason why so many people immigrated was because Canada promoted the healthy climate, light taxes, free schools and 160 farming acres. The British do come, but often proving poor farmers, they settle in the cities. It is Americans, instead, who answer the call, many of whom arrive with agricultural expertise as well as money, farm machinery and livestock.
