    The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    The Archduke of Austria and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Serbian terrorist group, The Black Hand. The Black Hand was upset that the Archduke had ordered the annexation of Bosnia. The significance of his assassination lead to the outbreak of the war.

    France was allied with Russia. German troops entered Belgium. British Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey, gave Germany an ultimatum; withdraw from Belgium or face British forces.

    The Battle of Tannenberg
    Destruction of the Second Russian Army in East Prussia by the Germans. The Russian Trains were unable to reach the troops and the Germans were able to surround the Russians. 125,000 Russians were taken Prisoner and thousands died.This battle was one of the first battles of World War I. This battles significance was that the Germans out battled and defeated armies larger than them who were more trained and equipped.

    Turkey joins the Central Powers; Austria-Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire. The Allied powers were Russia, France, The United Kingdom, Belgium, and the United States.

    The British passenger ship, the RMS Lusitania is sunk by German U-boats. The ship was carrying many American passengers and it's sinking sparked outrage in the U.S.

    On April 26, 1915, Italy signed the London Treaty which committed Italy to join the Allied Powers in the war. The Allies wanted Italy's support in the war because of the border that it shared with Austria.

    The battle of Verdun was a 9 month battle between the Germans and the French. It was one of the longest and bloodiest battles on the Western Front. The Germans lost 430,000 men and the French lost 540,000.

    The battle of Jutland
    This battle took place off the coast of Denmark's North Sea and consisted of gunfire between the German and British forces; 250 ships and 100,000 men. It was the only large-scale naval battle of the war and by the end, the British were able to force the Germans to retreat.

    This battle took place from July 1-November, 1916 near the Somme River in France. 420,000 British soldiers were lost, 200,000 French died, 500,000 German soldiers died.On the first day alone, the british lost 57,000 men. This battle for many symbolized how horrific war is for many.

  • The United Stes Joins the War

    The United Stes Joins the War
    The United states finally enters the war when it declares war on Germany. After remaining neural during the first 2 1/2 years of the war, the U.S. enters the war and declares war on Germany. The sinking of the Lusitania and many U.S. merchant ship in the North Atlantic, the American people called for President Woodrow Wilson to declare war. Over 4 million Americans were mobilized and the U.S. suffered 110,000 deaths, 45,000 due to the Spanish influenza.

    The Hindenberg Line Collapses
    The Allied Powers push the German troops back behind the Hindenberg Line. The line was a German defensive position held from Arras to Laffaux France.
  • The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
    Russia signs an armistice with Germany at Brest-Litovsk. The treaty required Russia to surrender Poland and Ukrain to the Germans. Russia was also required to pay 300 million roubles to German for the repatriation of Russian Prisoners.

    The battle that led to the victory of the Allied Powers and the end of the war.
  • The Armistice that Ends the War is Signed

    The Armistice that Ends the War is Signed
    At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Armistice that ended The Great War was signed in the French Town of Redonthes. The armistice required the immediate withdrawls of German troops from enemy territory, completely disarmament and demobilization, and the release of Allied prisoners.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty. Occurred in Paris, France. A main portion of the Treaty was that Germany was responsible for the war and because they were they had to pay. The Treaty of Versailles caused debt and humiliation for Germany.

    The International Red Cross Movement and Red Crescent Movement is Established
    Humanitarian movement with over 17 million volunteers. Significant because its goal and vision for the movement was to protect human health and respect all human lives worldwide.
  • Stock Market Crashed

    Stock Market Crashed
    Share prices on the New York Stock Exchange collapsed. This event was also known as the Wall Street Crash. This was the leading crash toward the Great Depression.
  • Great Depression 1929- Late 1930s

    GDP fell 15%.Unemployment rose to 25% in United States.Many people were hurt, including construction and farmers. The most widespread depression in the 20th century.

    Her bravery inspired many women. She was a pioneer and the first of her kind.
  • Social Security Act

    The Great Depression lead to this Act.It gave more benefits to the elderly, blind, and disabled. This act was meant to provide help to families.

    The Treaty of Munich was a Treaty between Germany, Great Britain, France, and Italy! This Treaty allowed German annexation of the Sudetenland in western Czechoslovakia.     Czechoslovaika was forgotten by its allies and left to defend for itself but on the night of March 3rd of 1939 invated Czechoslovakia was forced to surender to Hitler and the Nazi miltray.     Hitler and his Nazi forces inattion of Yugoslavia is know to be rapid and harsg which resulted in the death of approxmently 17,000 human-beings. This is one of the events of WW II that is known for known for whipping out half of the population within a single day! Not only did they whip out half of the population but they also destoyed all the air ways and about 600 aircrafts.

    Pearl Harbor
    Pearl Harbor is known as the military base in Hawaii. On the morningt of December 7th of 1941 Japan Bombed the beutiful military base by suprise. They destoyed approxmently 20 American Native vessals which includend 8 battleships and over 300 aircrafts.
