    The Catalyst of the Ming Dynasty

    After seven years of war Zhu Yuanzhang's army defeats the Yuan dynasty.
  • 1368

    Construction on the Great Wall of China begins.

    Construction on the Great Wall of Chine starts.
  • 1368

    Zhu Yuanzhang declares himself the emperor of China.

    Zhu Yuanzhang takes over China and declares himself the first emperor of the Ming dynasty
  • 1371

    Sea Trade is banned

    In order to cut down on piracy all sea trade is banned in China
  • 1420

    Beijing becomes the capital of China

    Beijing is named the new capital of China and will remain so through the modern day
  • 1449

    Emperor Zhengtong is captured

    Mongolia captures Emperor Zhengtong and holds him for ransom. he was released four years later with no ransom paid
  • Li Zheng leads a revolt

    Li Zicheng rallies the people and leads a revolt against the Ming dynasty
  • The Ming Dynasty ends

    Li Zicheng's forces take Beijing. Emperor Chongzhen commits suicide and with the last Ming emperor dead the Ming dynasty ends and China shifts to the Shun Dynasty
