    The Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The first battle in the American Revolutionary War. On the night of April 18, 1775, hundreds of British troops marched to nearby Concord in order to seize an arms cache. Paul Revere and others sounded the alarm. The colonial militiamen started to mobilize. A confrontation on the Lexington town green started off the fighting, and soon the British were hastily retreating under intense fire. The fight lasts one day.

    The Battle of Brandywine
    This was a big lost for Washington and his armies. General Sir William Howe and General Charles Cornwallis launch a full-scale British attack Brandywine Creek near Chadds Ford in Delaware. The two generals split up their 18,000 force. One would attack from the front while the other flanked from behind. Because of the dense fog, Washington didn't know what hit him. 1,100 Americans died or hurt or captured while only 600 British were killed. Washington and the rest of his men escaped.

    The two battle of Saratoga was the turning point for the American colonists. On September 19th, The British and American colonists clashed in Saratoga. The British won the first battle. British General John Burgoyne was in charge of the British forces. Burgoyne attacked again the Americans at Bemis Heights on October 7th, but this time was defeated and forced to retreat. He surrendered ten days later. After this battle, the French stepped into the war. Lasted from September 19-October 7 of 1777.

    After being defeated by the British forces defeated in Philadelphia, Washington launched a surprise attack on the British camp. However, Washington's army failed to pull off his battle plan. The British ended driving away the Americans, inflicting twice as many casualties as they suffered. Not only defeated at Brandywine but at Germantown led some prominent Americans to question Washington’s leadership.

    In 1781, George Washington was in charge of the 17,000 French & Continental troops. They went to to Yorktown to claim it back from the British. General Lord Charles Cornwallis commanded 9,000 British troops in Yorktown, Virginia. When Cornwallis realized he was about to be defeat, he tried to escape through the Chesapeake Bay. The French Fleet block his way. The British were forced to leave every part of the American colonies.
