The first commercial car radio came out in June 1930. This allowed people to consume media during of their lives as they made daily commutes. -
A large musical producer of it's time was invented in the 40s allowing people to be exposed to music media. Now technology has evolved for the most part past things like jukeboxes, however it gave people a taste for what music could be and now it has evolved to something so crazy today. It also could have inspired advertisers for a new way of sharing their products on a radio like object although that is just a guess. -
The first music video was a large step in the media industry, it allowed for easy sharing of music media to come in the future. It was also good because it allowed for companies and consumers to view and place product placements spreading media and allowed for people who did not necessarily like the band, but enjoyed the videos to get their media consumption. -
This had a huge impact on the future of mass produced adult entertainment. It has created problems in society today in terms of addiction and exploitation of women and today's youth. The first printing of the magazine was an astronomical success and now it has run with the public and media possibly making people desensitized to things today. -
Allowing people to have access to the internet the modem was intend to be used in home use for computers. This would let people have access to the media in a major way since they would be able to chat online, play games, look things up and be exposed to advertising. -
Having a computer mouse may not seem like a large technology advancement today, but it would have helped and changed the way people interacted with computers. It would have made it much more easy to use the pcs bringing more people to them and making quicker access to media. -
The "Magnavox Odyssey"came out in this decade, it was the first at home gaming console that was created. This started the humongous industry that is now video games. It came with cards, paper, etc to make the games on the console more interesting. -
CNN was the first launched 24 hour news broadcast channel. Having 24 hour access to news channels was a huge step in media and how information was shared. It allowed everyone to be able to view the news channels no matter the time around the globe. It was also a large step in the media being a space for disagreements for politics and etc. Although some news channels may attempt to keep an un biased opinion others do not have that same outlook and having 24 hour broadcasting makes that evident. -
The game boy was a very highly sold gaming device, it has sold 118.69 million or more devices to this day. It is now a big part of video gaming culture and would have been a good way to spread media to it's consumers. It's best selling game was tetris. -
Sharing content and quick messaging was a crazy breakthrough in this time, but it is something so common now. This gave people their first major taste of media and what it is capable of. -
The ipod shuffle, ipod touch and other varients had a very large opportunity to get people exposed to the media and what it was about. They could listen to mostly any music that they wanted, chat with people on some devices and also on some of the ipods things like face-times were invented. This was a huge turn for what the electronic industry is today. -
Facebook was one of the biggest social media platforms when it was released in 2004. It was the Instagram of it's time lol. I think this app was big in the media industry because it made it so easily accessible to share and spread information for the first time. Everyone was trying to get on it, which was a good thing for the creates of the app but it was also harmful for some of the information that could be shared and at scary speeds for the time. It also showed what media was capable of. -
Roblox was released and I could not find out if the release of it was anticipated by fans or not, however still to this day it still has people talking about it and playing the game. I believe that the game was important in the gaming industry even though it is sometimes a silly game. It had chat features and advertising placed into the game which would give the players in the game exposure to the media. -
Instagram. The app that almost everyone (that isnt almost dead) has stumbled onto. Possibly one of the biggest platforms at one point for sharing content, communicating, liking, and advertising. This app has a hugee impact on how people are exposed to social media and it has a tight hold on some people. I personally think it is a negative app, but I am sure people would debate that.
