    In 2600 BC the Maya civilization was first established

    Development of writing

    In 700 BC Writing was developed in the Mayan culture. The Mayans used hieroglyphics as their writing form.
  • 300 BCE

    Social System

    In 300 BC the Maya adopted the idea of social classes and that the civilization should be ruled by nobles and kings.
  • 751

    Decline of Alliances

    In 751 BC many Long-standing Maya alliances begin to parish, and trade between Maya city-states declines (causing inter-state conflict).
  • Period: 869 to 1224

    Decline of the Maya

    Cities are being abandoned one by one and are eventually vacant or taken over.
