In 1972 Martin Goodman creator of the Marvel enterprise retired as publisher, allowing Stan Lee to take his place. Following a revision of Marvel staff, Jack Kirby returned to Marvel Comics in 1975. Within the same year Marvel Comics boosted their popularity in the U. K. by creating Captain Britain in 1976. -
However, in the late 1980s Marvel Comics faced major setbacks when key artists and writers abandoned the company for their rival, DC comics.
