  • Beginning of the Qing

    The Qing Dynasty arose from the Manchu people. These people were a mixture of Mongols and Jurchens who lived north of the great wall and usually fought with eachother. However, the Jurchens absorbed the Mongols and they intermarried and the Qing dynasty was born.
  • The Seven Grievances

    The Seven Grievances was a document that listed out seven wrongs the Ming dynasty had done. It was effectively a declaration of war against the Ming Dynasty. Shortly after the Seven Grievances were delivered the Battle of Fushun began.
  • Battle Of Nigyuan

    The leader Nurhaci commanded men to march on Ningyuan to try and seize control from the Ming dynasty. At this time the Qing were known as the Jurchen Later Jin, but they failed to take the city and Nurhaci was wounded resulting in a loss of the battle.
  • Fall of Beijing

    Fall of Beijing

  • Dorgon uses political power to conquer the rest of the fallen Ming Dynasty

    Dorgon chased Ming Loyalists into the southwestern provinces of China and established the basis of Qing rule over china. However, he was an unpopular leader due to strict rules such as the 1645 hair cutting command.
  • Battle of Shanhai Pass

    Battle of Shanhai Pass
    This battle was important to the formation of the Qing dynasty as Dorgon and Wu Sangui joined forces to defeat the rebel leader Li Zicheng of the Shun Dynasty allowing Dorgon to rapidly conquer Beijing.

  • The Great Clearance

    The Kangxi emperor of the Qing had the costal areas of Guangdong evacuated in order to fight off the anti Qing loyalist movement coming from Taiwan.
  • The Revolt of the Three Feudatories

    The Revolt of the Three Feudatories
    Wu Sangui was allowed to choose his own group of officials as well as the best war horses before the Qing. Three chinese provinces banded together to revolt against Kangxi who was the emperor at the time. The Qing had well trained armies allowing them to win and reclaim three provinces.

  • Battle of Penghu

    Zheng Chenggong drove out the Dutch and founded the Kingdom of Tungning which was a Ming loyalist state. The ensuing battle was a naval battle which was won by the Qing due to greater strategy and an outnumbering of three warships to one.
  • Qing Golden Age

    After the Qing was in full power the dynasty began to flourish. The borders were secure and there was no shortages in food or any famines for a long time. Emperor Kangxi was in power at this time and held the throne for one of the longest reigns in dynastic history.
