    Union Blockage
    During the Civil War, the Union attempted to blockage the Southern states. This meant that they tried to block supplies, goods, weapons, and etc from entering the Southern states. The Union thought that by doing this they could cause the economy of the Confederacy States to collapse. This event happened between 1861-1865
  • The Trent Affair

    The Trent Affair
    This was an incident in 1861 during the Civil War that threatened a war between the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland. So then the U.S. Navy had captured two Confederate diplomats from a British Royal Mail steamer. The British government then protested vigorously.
  • The Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation
    President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation as the nation approached its third year of the Civil War. It declared “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free.” The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on September 22, 1862.

    Gettysburg Address
    The Gettysburg Address is a speech that U.S. President Abraham Lincoln delivered during the Civil War. This address was to try and reinforce the North’s commitment to winning the war and keeping the nation united. The speech was spoken from Lincoln at the end of the ceremonies dedicating the battlefield cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
  • The 1864 Election

    The 1864 Election
    Right in the middle of the Civil War was the 1864 election. Abraham Lincoln and the National Union Party had easily defeated the Democratic nominee, General George B. McClellan. With a wide margin of 212-21 in the electoral college, with 55% of the popular vote. Abraham Lincoln was then our 16th president of the United States.

    Better known as Black Laws, were laws governing the conduct of African Americans. These laws were passed after the American Civil War to restrict African Americans’ freedom. These laws were so cruel because they also had to work for low wages.
  • Abraham Lincoln’s Assassination

    Abraham Lincoln’s Assassination
    Our 16th president of the United States was attacked and shot to death on April 14, 1865. Lincoln’s death happened at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C.. Lincoln was shot in the head by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln later died the next morning on April 15, 1865.
