Franz and Sophie Ferdinand were shot dead on their visit to Sebia. Franz was the Archduke of Austria, and while visiting Serbia Franz and his wife were shot while they got lost while driving. After this act, Austria declared war on Sebia.

Training in Egypt took place to help provide skills to the troops. The training was poor and the wepons used were not of modern day, The Australian troops were described as larrikins.

Britain declared war on Germany. Prime Minister Andrew Fisher pledged full support for Britain. The outbreak of war was greeted in Australia, as in many other places, with great enthusiasm.

Royal Australian Navy made contribution when the Sydney War ship, HMAS, destroyed a German Ship, the SMS Emden.

The AIF, as well as troops from New Zeland, Britian and France, landed in Galipoli. The troops tred ti takre over control of the Dardanelles, this would re-establish communications with Russia and release wheat and shipping locked in the Black Sea by Turkey. The campaign ended on 20th december 1915
