    Prince Henry the Navigator

    In early 1400 Portugal became a leader in the exploration of the world. Prince Henry the Navigator, was in charge of making exploration more successful. He would never go and set sail on a voyage himself. Henry build an observation and founded a school for children.

    Technology Advances

    New technology started to be in the making. Sailors had to have a tool to make them go the right way. So the adventures made a astrolabe and that is a device that you can navigate ships in a location by the shooting star!

    Impacted of Columbus Voyages

    The voyage change the way the Eroupeans thought about the world. Columbus discovered that both Spain and Portugal already had growing empires, and had issues with each other. So both of the lands had a imaginary line, Line of Demarcation. That divides the Atlantic Ocean

    Is the son of Erik the red, and he shared his fathers love of adventures. In the year of 1000, his ship that was going to Norway and Greenland was carried away (by wind) to America. His crew landed in Labrador Peninsula in Canada.

    Christopher Columbus was trying to sail to Asia. He though going west on the map was going to be faster then going around Africa. He was sailing west across the Altantic ocean from Europe, and found land. He thought that it was Asia. He got out of his boat and saw Native Americas. He told his crew that they don't look like Asians or don't speak like them.

    If Christopher Columbus did not go the West way from England, he would not have found our country. If he went through the south way we would probably get to Asia instead of the America's.

    Spain and England go to War.

    King Philip ll got made at the English piracy. So he started to gathered Spanish Armada that was ships to end the war. Armada had about 130 ships and 27,000 sailors and solders.

    Martin Luther did not like the Catholic way of them teaching to the people. So he went out and started to make Protestant. Protestant were people who protested some of the Catholic Church.

    Spanish Conquistadors

    When the Spanish were about to attack, they sent conquistadors. Conquistador are soldiers that led the military in the Americas. Conquistador Hernán Cortés left Cuba to sail to present day Mexico in 1519. He heard the wealthy land that was ruled by a king named Moctezuma ll.

    The middle passage was where they got slaves from Africa to help them work in the America. It was also a voyage that crossed the Atlantic Ocean.

    African Diaapra is where enslaved africans that where getting shipped over to the new world.

    To reward the settlers, Spain established the encomienda system. It gave the settlers right to tax local, if they made the native Americans work, and to convert them to Christians.
